Two Black Wolf commanders stood by the entrance, hands resting on their sword hilts. Mother reached into her silver cloak and produced the Heart of the Wolf. She laid it on the scarred wood of the table. In the dim light, the stone didn’t look like a legendary artifact. It looked like a piece of black glass, dark and jagged. The candlelight bent away from it, as if the stone were drinking the light itself.

He slid down to the ground, limp. Dot convulsed violently for a moment. Blood trickled out of his nose and snout. His wet, glimmering eyes that had soothed me countless times looked at me for one final, torturing moment before that light was snuffed out. Everything came to a screeching halt, and silence followed. I froze as my pupils dilated in horror. I couldn't tear my eyes away from the tiny, lifeless body lying on the ground. I'd spent seven years with that precious pup. Dot had been the only thing tethering me to something real and warm through countless lonely nights.

She poured every ounce of her purification light into the obsidian. ​A crack formed. Then another. ​With a sound like a shattering glacier, the obsidian bars burst outward. Elara dove into the chest cavity. ​Inside, the world was a nightmare of shifting shadows. Thick, pulsing veins of corruption hung from the ceiling like weeping willow branches. In the center of the chamber floated the Heart. It was a jagged, pulsing diamond the size of a carriage. It held a swirling, black smoke. That smoke had a face.

The normal rush of it dulled by my aching heart. After a few moments that’s it. All the souls in the forest. Dead. Darkness rises up and rushes towards me from all directions. My form flinches with each new hit of the darkness. Charging me up but not enough - not enough. I’m so tired. I’m broken and tired. My heart feels like an anchor, sinking me lower and lower. Despair seizing my soul. My eyes blink furiously, fighting the darkness threatening to take over.

I thought of Daniel sitting in the dark alley, watching a screen, not knowing that the woman he loved was turning blue on a cold office floor. The darkness started at the edges of my eyes and began to swallow everything. I watched my own hand fall limp onto the floor, my palm upturned and empty. My lungs gave one last, violent convulsion, a desperate plea for oxygen that was answered only by more of the poisonous fog. My head hit the floor with a soft thud, and as the world went black, I felt the final, terrifying silence of my own heart stopping.

But as if my pleas have no effect instead of granting me light, it turned darker if that is even possible.Darkness began to consume me. I would have screamed but I have no voice. Then suddenly as if some strong force is attracting the darkness, a thin ray of spark makes it's way and soon began to expand until it replaces the darkness . This sudden light makes me shut my eyes tight.But when I open them , what I see escalates my heart bit way faster than before if that is even possible.
