It shook its head so hard the ears cracked against the skull, licked its muzzle twice, and sneezed.
"That's it," I said. "I’ve done it."
"Wait," Yvara said.
I waited. The rogue's ears went flat to its head. A low whine started up out of it, climbing, and it slid off its haunches down flat onto the straw, its back began to move under the fur where a back has no business moving, a long slow roll from the base of the skull down to the tail.
The whine climbed into a cry, a real one, pain riding all through it, I immediately got off my knees, and took a step back.
