The Lord's Plaything
Somewhere out there, the work wasn't finished.
But we'd started. That was something.
"Hey," Dante said. "What are you thinking?"
"I'm thinking we should dance."
"There's no music."
"So?"
He stood and pulled me to my feet. We swayed in the study, no music playing, just the sound of our breathing and the distant hum of the city.
"I love you," he said.
"I know."
"Stubborn."
"Patient."
He laughed, and I laughed, and somewhere in the house, our daughter slept peacefully, unaware of the battles her parents had fought to get here.
