Jones stared at Claire as she whispered, “What happened next?” Suddenly, she was a little girl again. He used to tell her scary stories about werewolves, vampires, fae, and warlocks. May hated it, but he couldn’t say no when his little niece looked up at him with big eyes and asked so politely for a story. He would always stopped at the climax, sighed dramatically, and say that it’s too scary. She would grab his hand and say she wasn’t scared, that she would be brave. She would ask, so excited, “What happened next?”

~Three Days Later~ ~Sunny’s Point of View~ “Mommy, can I ask you something,” I said. “Of course honey, what is it,” she said, brushing my hair. I loved that, it was so relaxing and it almost put me to sleep. “Who is the scary man that is around sometimes, why does he always stare at me,” I asked. “Oh … well sweetie he’s a vampire and he lives here,” she said. “He LIVES here?! Why does he live here, shouldn’t he be with others like him, won’t he hurt us,” I asked, horrified.

Everyone was happy until they played a game which they shouldn’t have The fun they were having wasn’t enough for them, they desired for some scare and that they got. They decided to tell each other spooky stories. The oldest kid among them told the story of what happened to the owners of the house—of course he didn’t tell it as it happened because no one knows what exactly happened and so to fill that void he added more than he should to the story to make it spookier—it’s not like you could blame the kid

She was the only one who saw me. She pulled a blade of grass from the ground, twirling it between her fingers for a while without saying anything. "Are you scared?" she asked, gently nudging my shoulder. I pursed my lips and nodded. “That’s understandable,” she whispered. “I’d be terrified too.” She offered a small, sad smile. "My grandmother says most of the stories about the Lycan King are exaggerated. She says powerful men make people nervous, and nervous people turn rumors into legends."

Rachel said. And then Lauren snorted but covered it with a cough. “I don’t care what y’all say some weird shit goes on up there around that mountain.” Girl #3 said. “Oh yeah my grandparents used to tell me these horrifying scary stories about a bunch of people that lived up there. They left for like twenty years and then came back! My grandfather swore to me they were werewolves.” Girl # 2 supplied. Oh shit.

The second brow came up. "Okay. Fine. I still find it kind of weird. I don't get how we are together but that doesn't mean I'm going to be scared or uncomfortable to see you in your lycan form," I shrugged, knowing fully well that I just spilled a white lie. The stories I had heard of Lycans as a child always frightened me more than I liked to admit. I heard they were eight foot tall humanoid monsters that could tear you apart with a single snap of their teeth. My mother always used to tell my brother and I those stories when we acted naughty to keep us in line.

“What’s your favorite movie?” Laura is silent for a long moment, her bottom lip between her teeth as she thinks. “I-I don’t know.” She exhales. “I think I liked comedies or drama pieces. Nothing sad or scary.” I offer her a smile. “I don’t like anything scary either.” Her eyes widened in surprise. “Really?” “Hell, yeah.” I nod without an ounce of shame. “Demons and poltergeists are terrifying.” Laura’s throat releases the quietest laugh. “Yeah, they are.”

Sophie asked curiously as they walked along the shoreline. "No, not really. They're kinda boring. Well except for the ones you see at zoo. There's a reason they call them the scariest creatures on Earth. Because they scare people and they're dangerous. They could end you just by staring at you. And the fact that they eat fish doesn't surprise me either. It's actually a pretty normal thing for fish to eat. I think that they're basically omnivores." Max explained. "They are also the scariest creatures because they are very territorial and won't hesitate to attack you if you threaten to take food away from their territory." Max finished.

“Do you think it’s haunted?” My breath sticks in my chest at her words. Before I can say anything, Jack laughs. “Don’t be stupid. Of course it isn’t haunted.” “Some people think it is,” I counter. “There have always been stories about this place, about the swamp.” The woman pauses as an uneasy shadow flickers across her delicate features. “What kind of stories?” she presses. Jack once again cuts me off. “Who gives a shit?” he chuckles. “Ghosts, witches, werewolves–that’s all kid stuff. The only thing we should be afraid of is the IRS.”

Ten-year-old Bree chimed as Emma looked over her shoulder worriedly. “That’s nice, sweetie. Why don’t you tell me about that mermaid story again?” “I hate that story. Can I tell the one about the wolf?” Bran chimed in. “Wolf?” Patrick asked as Brinna looked out the window and saw another animal running alongside their vehicle. “Yeah, the one that eats the girl in the red hood.” “Mommy, I don’t like that story. It is scary.” Bree snuck at the rolling landscape and saw the scary animal with sharp teeth sneering at her, so she pretended to look forward and saw her parents exchange a look.
