A Queen Among Tempests

A Queen Among Tempests

Even now I still taste her decadent flavour on my tongue, only worsened by the way her scent still clings to this room like a shadow. Holding up the sketch in front of me I’m repulsed by its weak imitation and angered that I am bedevilled even to care. I watch as the portrait bursts into flames in my hands leaving nothing but ash floating in the air. I rise from my desk and look around the room at the many portraits of her face. They repulse me. No palette on Earth can capture the shade of burnt sienna that is her skin or the strands of cedar and mocha that make up her hair. Humans don’t even know of all the colours that make up her eyes and I don’t understand why I fucking care?!

Billionaire Daddy's Little Artist

Billionaire Daddy's Little Artist

At the recent festival I attended with William, I was half-expecting Eva to appear and hurl verbal abuse at me, but to my relief, she was nowhere to be seen. With each stroke of my brush, my artistic abilities flourished, resulting in a breathtaking work of art that surpassed my wildest expectations. The illustration portrayed a formidable woman emerging from the midst of a fierce inferno, her figure draped in ash as a testament to her unassailable strength and resilience in the face of life's daunting challenges. She stood tall and steadfast, a luminary of hope for all those besieged by adversity, reminding us all that we, too, possess the tenacity to triumph over the flames that threaten t

A Mother's Final Portrait

A Mother's Final Portrait

Dead. … After Yvonne was taken away, the autopsy room regained its silence. My mother's hand was trembling. Regardless, she couldn't still her heart and make the portrait no matter how hard she tried to compose herself. Something snapped. My mother had snapped the pencil, and it pierced her fingertip. Then, she crumpled to the ground as if all her strength was sapped and muttered, "Impossible…" I huddled closer for a look and was stunned to see my face staring back at me from the paper. The portrait was my exact reflection. Would you look at that? She even got the despair on my face before I died down to a T.

The Final Portrait

The Final Portrait

"Did you think I'd just follow you back there? Dream on!" With a sudden burst of strength, she freed herself from her restraints and smashed the gas canister at the end of the hallway. Reaching into her pocket, she produced a lighter, a sinister grin appearing on her face. "You betrayed me, Chris… So you should pay the price! Let's go to hell together!" The exhibition hall burst into flames, which continued for a few hours. Chris was badly wounded but safe, and though he was sent to the hospital, he seemed like a completely different person when he woke up again.

Love in the Line of Fire

Love in the Line of Fire

The message she was supposed to find. Folded into the bottom seam of the bag, like a signature. A photograph. She pulled it out with shaking fingers. The picture was old. Maybe a decade. A younger Ilana, soot-smeared and too thin, stood beside Helene on the rooftop of the training compound. Ilana’s expression was blank, her arm streaked with blood. Her first mission. Helene had her hand on Ilana’s shoulder. She was smiling. On the back, written in precise, looping script:

Two Months Before Leaving You

Two Months Before Leaving You

But I knew whatever it was, I still lived in it every single day of my life. The painting depicts a beautiful young woman with burns callousing her skin, her head poking out of a cottage house that is already blazing in fire, her hand reaching out for something, someone to help her, hope still in her black green eyes. On the same setting, just right beside the house is a lurking shadow that seems to be an embodiment of the fire, hiding behind the shadows of the burning house, as if having been cast out and is waiting for its perfect opportunity to haunt its victim.

Married To A Monster

Married To A Monster

They were not identical merely by blood; they held the exact same spark, a flare of green in a sea of brown, a flare of stubborn light that had once been described as ‘gypsy fire. The woman wore a faded dress and a shawl draped around her shoulders. Behind her was a marketplace, stalls blurred with motion, a hand reaching in the background as if to bargain. On the lower right corner of the photograph, in a hurried hand, scattered words had been penciled: Found her. Alive. -M.

Setting Fire to Her Lies

Setting Fire to Her Lies

Although this graduation painting had not yet been completed, it was far superior to any of my previous works. The moment Willow saw the painting, her expression subtly shifted. I caught the flicker of greed and jealousy in her eyes. I looked around the room. In the next moment, I did something that left everyone completely flabbergasted. I pulled out a lighter and flicked it. Then, I brought the flame close to one corner of the canvas. "Cassidy! What are you doing?" Jess shouted sharply almost immediately. Needless to say, she was the first to react. The flame licked at the edge of the canvas and spread quickly. My masterpiece, the product of my passion and skill, burned down to ash before

The Fire That Chose Me

The Fire That Chose Me

“Why me?” “I don’t know,” the woman said truthfully. “But I know what it means. The fire doesn’t awaken without purpose. And it doesn’t choose without price.” Aiden moved beside her, steady as always. “Can you help her?” “I can show her pieces,” the woman said. “Glimpses. But she must walk the path herself. The flame will burn brighter the more she accepts it. And the more she denies it…” Her voice softened. “The more it will consume her.”
