Taking everything. This was it. This was how I died. Not in glorious battle. Not protecting my mate. But as a monster who brought darkness to people trying to help me. Then I heard her voice. "Darion get down!" Dropped. Hit the floor. Didn't think. Just obeyed. Light exploded overhead. Bright. Pure. Like captured sunlight turned into a weapon. Lena stood at the end of the hallway. Hands raised. Eyes glowing with that same unnatural light. Power radiating off her in waves that made the air shimmer.

Quincy White. That name had once filled her with so much warmth and lighted her up from the inside, but now, it was all it took to plunge her mind into dread, fear, and maybe, even revenge. Quincy had been the light of her world, her little ray of sunshine, and her personal cheerleader. She had loved everything about him and she couldn't imagine her future without him.

He let out a cry and fell forward after purple lightning struck him from the back and Cassie was zooming into view, her body aglow with electricity. The Legion was fast losing this fight and Morrígan went down a second time after failing yet again to trick Viper with her dark magic. Viper had rounded on her with a terrific blow to the torso, blasting her into the wall of a collapsed building with lighting. There were already cries of victory coming from the APD officers who were still standing which might have been a bit too soon when their triumphant cheers were drowned by the sound of rumbling thunder and a sharp crackling.

Zephyr frantically defended himself against the seemingly-endless attack. His stamina kept depleting while most of the other fighters in the square had already completed their talent test. Both Yang and Ricky had already caught the elders’ attention. Zephyr felt like he was at his limit, when suddenly, the resistive power of the scales and Electrical powers finally lessened. He grabbed hold of this opportunity to absorb the light energy around him. In a blink of an eye, he absorbed a vast amount of light before he was once again suppressed by the Electrical powers. He had only managed to condense the light energy around him into two light beams.

Lightening would have to strike for her to believe him. The line moved for them to get their class schedules. After getting their schedules the girls compared to see what classes they had together. Only one class differed between them. Demi was in choir whereas Victoria was in art. The girls looked at each other with smiles and squealed. A teacher reproached them with a look. They grabbed each other’s hands and ran out of the gym giggling.

I said, pointing toward the flickering light. They exchanged a glance of understanding and obeyed my command. Together, they unleashed a powerful assault, their elemental energies converging on the rock. As the light grew brighter, the creature recoiled, its form writhing in pain. It seemed to draw power from the darkness, but the light disrupted its connection. “The light weakens it!” Cassie exclaimed, a glimmer of hope in her eyes. I nodded. “Keep going, we can drive it back.” With renewed determination, we intensified our attacks on the rock formation. The flickering light expanded, enveloping the creature in a radiant glow.

I ask in surprise. “Curious? Come with me.” he smirks. We left Light’s office and went to an expensive restaurant. Light booked a cabin for us and we ordered beer. There is a knock on the door and Light permits the man to enter. A young girl in a formal dressing enters. She is blonde and fair with a nice height. Actually, pretty cute. Light stands up and they both shake their hands, then Light introduces her to me, “Erin meet Laila and Laila, meet Erin White.”

Lucas stood with his head lowered, as if he couldn't even bring himself to meet my eyes. Slowly, he took a small box from inside his coat and held it out toward me. His voice was hoarse and barely above a whisper. "Wilma, I want to return this to you." I opened the box and saw the familiar star-shaped pendant. It was the same one I had broken and tossed aside in the car. It had been fully repaired. The delicate star glinted faintly under the light.

I hit the ground with a jolt of pain in my ankle, but I pushed through it, limping as I called Calvin. He picked up right away. "Calvin, you owe me a favor, and I'm calling it in. Come get me. Rebecca's behind this, and I have no clue where I am." Silence hung on the line for a few seconds before Calvin's chuckle broke through. "Rebecca's just trying to scare you straight. She's too nice to actually hurt you. Just chill out, they'll let you go once they've had their fun." "Calvin, you have to believe me! They're going to..." I was not finished when a voice rang out.

They just kept coming, arrows jutting from their bodies, eyes empty of everything but hunger. "Now," Ronan said. "Before they reach our lines." I nodded, stepping forward to the ridge's edge, drew in a breath that tasted like copper and fear and released everything I'd been holding back. Light erupted from my hands in a wave that turned the world white. I felt it surge through me, burning along every nerve, filling my vision with silver fire. The power was intoxicating and terrifying all at once. I directed it toward the advancing horde, and where my light touched shadow, darkness screamed.
