He looked at the boy—really looked at him—and saw the dark, spiderweb veins creeping up Kael’s neck. "You're burning out, Kael. This 'precursor' status... it’s not an upgrade. It’s a parasitic tether. The more you use it, the less of you is left." Kael let out a dry, ragged laugh, clutching Lucien’s coat. "Better to be a burnt-out spark than a flickering bulb in the Directorate’s lobby, right? Was that the line you used to tell the shareholders?"

At the time, she had snapped impatiently, "You've been out of college for two years! Stop thinking about games all day. Focus on working hard!" I had carefully explained the difference between CPUs and graphics cards—gaming relied more on the GPU, but for my work, CPU priority came first. She hadn't listened.

"Crystal clear." I nodded slowly. "He knows about my mother's history. Not in the general way that anyone reading the press materials knows. In the specific way that someone who has been briefed knows. He used the word legacy and he meant something particular by it and his face knew he meant it even when his mouth was being careful." Lucas leaned back in his chair and looked at the ceiling for a second. "Not enough on its own," he said.

I am excited that The Lost Luna is almost ready to be published in paperback form through A____n. There will be a completely new cover for the book, and each subsequent book will have it's own cover, although they will be similar and obviously a set. I have been working on a title for the series since it was originally supposed to be a one-off novel, but I am not good at sticking to plan. The series will be called Hidden Legacy.
