It’s learned a new lever. CAIN Starving a predator doesn’t make it weaker. It makes it smarter. The Devourer stops reaching for the obvious—fear, lust, separation. Those are noisy now. Easy to detect. Easy to deny.

The very second his eyes landed on me and dilated in shock, I went for the kill, laughing as the paintball hit his helmet and caused a crack in and made him stagger backwards. “Damn, that was brutal,” he let out a heave as he steadied himself. “Yeah, I like to look my prey in the eye before I decimate them,” I grinned. The next four rounds were exactly the same, as long as the Victor was concerned at least. I found different ways to kill him off and I never grew tired of how shocked he was each time I shot him. When we were done, I signed my name on the wall and gloated about it as much as I pleased until he grew tired of me and ran out under the guise of getting us some refreshments.
