I left the door open and walked back to the bed, sitting down again, waiting for whatever venom she came to spill this time.
She didn’t waste time.
“I see you haven’t heard the news of the new arrival of your stepbrother,” she began, her tone dripping with mock sympathy. “You’re going to have a step-step-sibling soon.”
I blinked. “What?”
She tilted her head slightly, enjoying the confusion on my face.
“I mean,” she said with a sweet smile that made my skin crawl, “your darling stepmother is pregnant. I thought you should know.”
I stared at her for a moment, unable to even process it. Then I laughed, sharp and empty.
