Ricky’s heart pounded, and a wave of power surged from him instantly. Boom, boom, boom! Although the intense force crashed against Adrian, he did not flinch. Instead, it caused Ricky to stumble two steps back. Ricky could only stare at Adrian, unable to believe that someone much younger than him could possess such overwhelming power. “Have I convinced you yet?” Adrian’s gaze turned cold, piercing through Ricky. “Do you finally realize you’re just an ignorant fool?” Ricky froze, not expecting Adrian to insult him so boldly. He grew furious as he roared, “Th-That’s impossible!”

I got down but just as I did, two tall muscular men walked up to me and demanded I hand them the key to my bike. I refused and stood my ground. They brought out a gun to scare me yet I held the key tightly. One of the men pointed the gun at my head. Before he could pull the trigger, someone punched him from behind and he landed on the ground. Seeing what had happened, the other man ran away. “I am Ricky, you are one tough guy.” Those were his exact words to me. He then gave me his number and demanded I call him the next morning. I barely slept that night. The next morning I gave him a call and he asked me to come to a particular address.

I slowly turn my face back toward him. And spit. It hits his cheek. Time freezes. Ricky stares at me like he doesn’t recognize what he’s looking at. Then his face twists, rage tearing through whatever mask he was wearing. His fist draws back. I brace myself. A sound cuts through the air outside. Sharp. Distant. Gunfire. Ricky freezes. Then he smiles. “Oh,” he says softly, almost delighted. “That’s my cue.” He straightens, smoothing his jacket like he’s about to step onto a stage. “Showtime.”

Twenty-eight. Twenty-nine. Ricky counted the push-ups in his head, the steady cadence of exercise soothing and calming to his churning mind. Undercover almost a month and Ricky had yet to uncover a single clue or even a rumor about a killer targeting shifters. Don't tell me I got assigned to the wrong prison. One shot, straight to the head," he taunted, the malice in his voice palpable.

Livie (a few days later) It's Ricky's birthday, he's finally turning 19 today. I can't believe time has gone by so fast. I still have about eight months before my birthday, but I am so happy right now, nothing can possibly ruin today. I have been preparing non-stop for today for days, making sure to have everything set perfectly. Ricky doesn't want anything big and extravagant, which is impossible since our pack is so big.
