I was about to pull away politely when the governor suddenly rose from his chair, his expression tense as he made his way toward us.
"Would you excuse us, Sophia?" the governor said, his voice calm but with an unmistakable edge. "I need to have a word with my son."
"Of course," I replied, stepping back immediately.
The governor’s hand clamped firmly onto Marcus’s shoulder, steering him away from the dance floor. I couldn’t hear everything he was saying, but the sharpness of his tone was unmistakable.
"Are you out of your mind? Touching her like that?" The governor’s voice dropped, but I caught his next words clearly: "Don’t you know she’s Victor’s woman?"
