I stride into the staff room to find Elaine and Sophia chitchatting together at the back. They both fall silent as I walk in. "Don't stop on my account." Sophia blushes the moment my eyes land on her. The interrogation professor has had a crush on me ever since Oak employed her two years ago. She's attractive, but not my type. Although when I told Oak that, his response was that's because she's not eighteen. The truth of it is that Sophia is going to be at this school permanently. Seniors come and go and therefore there're no strings attached, exactly how I like it.

His girlfriend, a tall, elegant blonde who looked like she’d stepped out of a fashion magazine, let out a soft, fake laugh.

Ian wasn’t here yet, which gave me a moment to prepare myself, to settle into the role of student. My fingers traced the edge of my notebook absentmindedly as I thought about the first time I realized who Ian really was. The shock of learning that my history professor was also the king of the vampire realm had been intense, to say the least. But what had surprised me even more was the connection I still felt to him and the fact that I still continued to love him. It was something that went beyond bloodlines and ancient power. It was as if he saw right through the walls I’d spent centuries building, understanding me in a way no one else ever had.

Slowly raising my gaze up to the owner of that familiar voice, my eyes widened to see my professor standing before me with a thin smile hanging on his lips as he wiped away my tears. "Professor Kaiser?" I muttered inaudibly but he heard it as his smile grew wider. "What are you doing here at the Packhouse?" He chuckled, "what else if not attending the same asshole's engagement who had broken your heart? "

Anna collapsed to her knees, clutching Professor Marcus’s shoe tightly. “Please spare me,” she pleaded, tears streaming down her face. Just then, Damien entered and signalled for her to leave with him. But I couldn’t just stand by; I knew what was coming. I rushed forward to block Damien, my heart racing with fear for her. “CASSANDRA!” I froze at the sound of Professor Marcus’s voice; the fury in it was undeniable, his presence emanating a menacing energy that sent shivers down my spine. “Please, it's my fault! Don’t fire her, just don’t!” I said, my voice steady despite my rising anxiety. I hoped my words would sway him; I had to believe they would.
