I turned my gaze to Wenna and gave her a deadly look. While Rajiv just laughed next to me who also heard what Wenna said. "Char, it's just a joke!" Wenna chuckled and burst out laughing. I was a little relieved. Some people look at our students. Some of them look at me badly, others are curious. Maybe they are wondering why the new professor at this university is at the same table.

She knocked on the door of the professor’s chamber. “Come in.” She walked in to find a large room that was sparsely furnished. The professor was sitting behind his table correcting homework. On one side of the room were models and charts done by previous students as part of their project work or assignments. Most of the room however, was filled with rows upon rows of books neatly lined up on three sides of the room. She couldn’t help but gape open-mouthed at the vast treasure of knowledge in the room. She found it difficult to believe that anyone would be so racist and discriminatory after reading so many books.

I told her. “Good evening class. I am Professor Santina. Welcome to the History of Shifters,” the professor began as she wrote her name and class on the whiteboard. I opened my backpack, and I was pleased to see that Xaden stocked it with pens and pencils along with a couple of empty notebooks and an agenda. I smiled at the thoughtfulness as I pulled out a pen and a notebook. I copied what Professor Santina had written down. “By class time tomorrow, I expect you all to have the appropriate textbooks for a successful semester. You can find them at the school store in the same building as the dining hall. Use your school cards to purchase supplies.”

Jack pats her shoulder, his face twisted in fake concern. I should feel something sympathy, worry but all I can think is: Now who’s going to tell me my art is empty? The dean gestures to the stranger beside her. "This is Mr. Laurent. He’ll be your substitute instructor for the remainder of the semester." And that’s when I finally look at him. Jerome Laurent is not what I expected. Young too young to be a professor, maybe late twenties with tousled dark hair and a sharp jaw shadowed by stubble. He’s dressed in all black: fitted slacks, a rolled sleeve button down, boots that look like they’ve seen more than just a classroom.

A pedestrian lane for just students and tourists, it intertwined into all the blocks, carrying you from one block to another without having to run. Fuck. I try to read his expression from where I stand. He looks pained and uncomfortable. She is a good three heads shorter than him but she was squaring her shoulders and raising her head to look even more intimidating. Not on my watch. I walk to them, an innocent smile on my face. “Here you are Professor Walker. I finished the textbooks you recommended but I am still unclear on certain things, can you help me?” Priscilla clears her throat nosily. “You have eyes, use them. Your professor is busy. Come back later.”

Despite the glasses he wore and his constant attention to his books, his good looks and machismo were still apparent. I was even more confused by what he said. My mind was already jumbled, and it felt like I was in a difficult puzzle. What did he say? Bulletin board? What's on the bulletin board? Was what was on the bulletin board the reason why the students were in chaos? "Oh, that's why you seem to be unaware of the announcement," the Greek nerdy guy said. I was about to speak, but Prof. Risa spoke again, making me sit straight.

I whispered. “And that will be all for today,” Professor Kai’s voice cut through the room, firm and final. He was already snapping his textbook shut, as a few eager students shot their hands up, but he waved them off with a tired motion. “Hold your questions until next time, and I promise to address them all.” I glanced at my watch, he was leaving early. A full thirty minutes early!?, my stomach tightened, and then, I knew my guess was right, Something is wrong!

He really is. "That will be the end of the class. Make sure you guys get the texts, we will start studying them next week. If you can't buy, you can borrow from the library. I think there are ebooks of it also. I am saying all these because I won't entertain any excuses. If you have any question, you can ask them now. And no autograph requests please." Professor Zane says and the class erupts in laughter. Claire just beams beside me.

"I can imagine that in this day and age, you're not too familiar with our customs and traditions; probably not even with mates, am I correct?" I nodded. "Here are some books I think you could benefit from," Xavier said, pulling three from the shelf. "If you have any questions let me know, I'll go get you some tea while you read." I thanked him as he handed the stack of books to me. I found a sofa in the next room over and began to look through the several-hundred page books I'd been given. One was entirely dedicated to mates.
