Isla was so happy that she felt like crying out of happiness but she reigned down on her emotions as she focused on the adorable little pug looking at her with his big puppy eyes. She couldn't believe that her dad had gotten her puppy. Alexander watched her as she danced around gleefully, the puppy still in her arms. It was as if she glowed with that vibrant hue around her, her happiness was contagious, at least to him.

Emotion welled up in my chest, so fierce and tender it hurt. I purred low in my throat, pressing my cheek against his warm fur. "My sweet, sweet puppy," I whispered, letting my lips brush his thick coat. In response, Slade let out a powerful, deep howl that shook the air around us, a song so full of pride and wild joy that I swore the stars above us flickered brighter.

The two of them walked out of the room, and Lovey immediately trotted over to Anastasia and began rubbing its head against her legs. With a laugh, she bent down to scoop up the puppy and kissed its soft fur. “Mommy loves her furry baby,” Anastasia cooed, and Lovey responded with an adorable bark that sounded more like a squeak. Damien shook his head, amused by the sight. “You are spoiling her more than you spoil me.”

I had been asked countless questions about my hair, and when they didn't seem to believe this mess on my head was natural, I simply let them believe what they wanted to believe. "We're here?" I glanced at the car window. I did notice the familiar street going to the animal shelter we visited a week ago. "I'm sorry I dozed off." Krystal was there immediately and hugged me. Titian, on the other hand, first cleared the table, since he had understood that I no longer felt like eating. He and Krys were long past that.
