What Survived The Burn
The warmth seeps deep into my bones, chasing out the chill of exhaustion, of fear, of the unknown.
I let my head fall forward between my arms, eyes closed, and just breathe.
Inhale.
Simon. Still here. Still lingering on the walls, soaked into the towels, the air, even the soap.
Exhale.
Want. Not just Zerina’s. Mine.
I grab the bottle of his body wash and twist it open. The scent blooms instantly—woodsmoke and pine, leather and something darker, like rain on warm stone.
I squeeze a bit into my palm and lather it slowly across my skin, working it into my shoulders, my arms, my chest. I scrub hard, like I’m washing away everything that came before this.
