Rejected and Desired
I just turned and headed for the couch where my haven resided – a mountain of pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals, a fortress of comfort against the encroaching storm.
Lifting the edge of the massive, patchwork quilt, I crawled underneath, my heart a hummingbird trapped in a cage. The familiar scent of lavender and my own honeysuckle engulfed me, a tangible embrace against the intangible anxieties that clawed at my soul. Hedwig, my trusty owl plushie, lay nestled amongst the pillows. I scooped her up, her soft, worn fabric a balm to my aching skin. I hugged her close, her weight a comforting anchor in the ocean of my emotions.
