She looks away first. Bad hiding. Again. LUS remains silent. Again. Maya’s pencil pauses over the clipboard. Then keeps moving. Not now. The dead come once, mid-afternoon, drawn by crane noise and hammering. Six of them, staggering up the service lane with the stubborn entitlement of customers arriving after closing. Miles handles three. Marcus handles two. The last gets close enough to the new gate for Maya to test the angle. She lets it enter the dogleg. Lets it turn blind. Lets Eli drop it from above with one clean strike.

I heard the clicking of camera shutters, but no one called the ambulance. My blood drained dry. My body became cold. Finally, Yvette Skye was no more. I died all alone at the corner of the street. No one cared. My corpse was not a pretty sight. My eyes were wide, unseeing, and there was a large hole in my stomach. My legs were twisted together. One of my arms was flung by the side of the road. My legs were useless now. I was ugly. No wonder the little girl cried. Floating in the air, I stared at my mutilated corpse.

Carl pulled her into his arms and said, "Don't cry, Pheebs. Everyone has their own destiny." What bullshit! I didn't believe in that rubbish, yet my fate had played such a huge prank on me. It had turned me into such a harbinger of misfortune. I saw the slight smile on Carl's face. He seemed to be pleased that I was dead. He and the rest of them surrounded my body. Silence descended upon them as they looked at my photo and urn. Gary said grimly, "Holly called me this afternoon and told me she was going to die. She wanted us to have one last meal with her."

“This is the last time I am asking!” Kevin started laughing an evil laugh, “Your girlfriend’s old place. He built it back up and there is an underground tunnel you will never find!” Kevin laughed as blood spewed from his mouth. The blood on the ground was pooling up and running down the drain as he took his last breath. After a minute, his body slumped over and Kevin was dead. “Alrighty boys. Have fun cleaning that up and I suggest you wear gloves.” Kyle said as he smiled at me.

Nora continued stabbing the hairpin into Henry's abdomen. "Now I finally realize what an absurd mistake I have made! It's only John who truly loves me. You broke his ribs. I'm guessing you even instigated me to kill his mother. You deserve to die and have a taste of your own medicine!" Nora's eyes were bloodshot. Henry was barely breathing anymore. She raised her hand high up once more, aiming for Henry's heart. "Stop right there!" I ran over and kicked the hairpin out of Nora's hand. Letting Henry die just like that would be too easy on him.

I questioned and my head went down slightly "She doesn't even know what-" Death starts saying "Yes I do, so shut up," I tell him fiercely widening the eyes of Aphrodite as they all struggle not to laugh, but Zeus does not hold it in and bursts into laughter making Death roll his eyes. "You didn't even know who I was," Death says

That was when Murin looked them both dead in the eye and whispered, "We are now in the same boat as Caleb! Do not think about betraying him no matter what happens, or he will prove to you why he and the Chandlers are scarier than the Alliance, Danmarch, and Nistral! Seeing Murin's glower and determined look, both Udal and Grendel inhaled deeply. "Magister Davos is right!" Udal said, gritting his teeth and lunged toward Zoronda's five remaining elders. Shunk! I took great pleasure in torturing them till they gave me the clues I needed to begin my search. I made sure to kill the underlings in the same fashion as the first: by ripping out their throats and draining them of their blood. I was emotionless except for my anger and grief as I watched them die. My only satisfaction came from seeing the fear that crossed the remaining underling's faces when they discovered their fallen brother's bodies on the steps to their lair. A month after Dante's death all of Quinton's underlings were dead except for one. That one was the young vampire that fled from the cemetery that night. He never did return to his father's lair to warn or protect his brothers.
