Both women decided against having lunch at the Hotel and decided to go in for some greasy burger whilst the spoke about their favourite part of town. Hannah was aware that Rachel hadn't stayed long in Everton before they met. She had just transferred in from South Dakota and was only at the Everton health centre for a week before Hannah was brought in. Then they'd clicked, and she dropped everything for Hannah. Rachel though, never regretted quitting her job. "It used to be a book shop. I would come here with my friends to study whenever we had a test," Hannah added ecstatically, the memories of her youth making her smile.

This is where the second book ends (yay). I’m ending it here because I felt that the storyline was starting to get too long for one book. This means that there’ll be a third book, but (drumroll) it’ll be part 2 of this one. But I’m calling it Mates and Temptations because The Pains of Guilt Part 2 didn’t sound catchy. And as a special little something, I added a bonus chapter after this one and a little blurb about the third book. I don’t have an exact date for when I’ll release book 3 because when it comes to my writing, I hate deadlines (they make me rush things and it affects the quality of my writing). The only reason I had one for this book is that I already had a lot of chapters ready

Harrison's guest room, but it was still far more comfortable than any bed I'd slept in before coming here. Rachel sat down next to me, her eyes searching my face. "What's your story, Emma?" she asked, her voice gentle, coaxing the words out of me like a skilled therapist. I took a moment, gathering my thoughts before I spoke, the words spilling out in a rush. I told her everything: my desperation, the job offer, and the unexpected twist my life had taken since setting foot in the Hathaway to Mr Harrison's mansion. Rachel listened without judgment, her expression a mix of sympathy and understanding.

She was going to wait a few more days before giving Lily another dose but today it was better to leave the pack’s territory and look for the magical books in the library. She packed her things up and then walked out of the lodge and headed straight to the entrance of the territory but while she was walking towards the territory someone stumbled into her and Levy couldn’t help but frown as she looked at the person in front of her. Tay asks and looks at me. “Oh no” Rachel realizes Tay didn’t know about me being the best-selling author, and I clear my throat. “Um, Rachel is the one who published my book when I was still in school.” I tell him. “You have a published book?” he asks with his eyes wide open. “Yep, and she is the best-selling author ever since her book was published. I’m sure you have heard of a book called ‘Behind closed doors?” Rachel asks Tay and his mouth half opens.

I blush while looking over at Raven who approaches me with a few books in hand. “What did you find?” I question while holding up a pair of shorts checking if they will fit. I smiled when I see Rebecca grabbing tank tops in colors, she knows I love. “I found a couple pregnancy books that look good, and I found this one of Viking stories it reminds me of Vaari,” Raven answers while showing me the books and I smile remembering Mummo Adaline and Vaari Jyrki always reading us stories. “They look good, thank you,” I smile while grabbing the story book and open it seeing that it looks like Mummo’s book or at least the illustrations do.

Rachel got to the library, entering the right security code and the iris camera, the door flung open as she walked in, slamming the door behind her. Rachel immediately fell to the ground as she gasped for air, she tilted her head, relaxing on the table as she clutched her belly. “Arya cannot hurt my baby… Athena cannot hurt me” Rachel muttered as she stared blankly at the floor, her eyes widening in fear as she bit her lips. “I need to hide” Rachel jerked up, heading to the bookshelves, punching a hidden button, a door opened behind the bookshelves and Rachel ran in as the door closed behind her.

“Something outrageous. With a pulley system and a trapdoor. Something that says ‘adventure’ and ‘home’ all at once.” She smiled, her heart a warm, full ache in her chest. This was the man she had married. Not the besieged strategist, but the builder of treehouses. “I got a letter today,” she said softly. “From Rachel Mirren.” She felt him go still. “And?” “She’s written a book. About power, coercion, and the failure of institutions. She wants to dedicate it to ‘the resilience of survivors.’ She asked for our blessing.” The ghost of their old life, reaching out in the form of a dedication. Not a threat, but an acknowledgment.

" Which was a complete lie of course. Now that her work schedule was hardly packed, she spent her evenings watching Brazilian telenovelas on cable. She didn't want to risk running into Galen Munroe and feeling the desire he awakened in her. What she sensed from him that night, was something so rare, so precious, that she almost wanted it to remain in her mind as her fondest memory. A once off meeting had opened her heart, to a man she barely knew.

I drag my hands across the spines of the books; Kara Taylor's Prep School Confidential, Carol Wyer's The Secret Admirer, and Megan Goldin's The Night Swim. You would be subtle to call Rachel a crime-thriller addict - she's more of a crime freak. The Night Swim. There is a piece of paper sticking out of it. I pull it out of the book. Something is scribbled across it in Rachel's handwriting.
