I was crying and breaking into pieces. Royal's POV She gave me up already when all I did was to fight for her. She didn't trust me enough even if she told me she would. Frustrated, I ran my palms against my face. I ran out of options because Raphaela was gone already. I was back into zero. "Royal," Ria called me from behind. I turned around to face her. We stared at each other for couple of seconds. Her eyes were dull and emotionless. She crossed her arms in front and gave me a bored look.

He radiated “touch my daughter and I’ll break your spine in half.” Rafe flicked his gaze over each of them quickly, trying not to look like he was cataloguing threats. Then his eyes landed on Baylee. He froze for a second. Then, to her disgust, he smiled. “Baylee Vale,” he said. “Damn. You’re still pretty.” Heather’s knife hit the wall point-first between Rafe’s head and his ear with a loud thunk. Rafe jerked. Heather smiled sweetly. “Oops,” she said.

The day passed in careful, exhausting motion. Rafe worked through the compound methodically, running new cable, testing angles, muttering to himself in the particular focused cadence of a man who processed fear by making his hands busy. Mira worked alongside him without being asked, passing tools, holding ladders, and somewhere in the quiet accumulation of small competent gestures Sloane watched something between them settle into place that looked less like new romance and more like the beginning of the kind of partnership that survived hard things.

"I'm Beckett Group's best connection in Solana City. In fact, I've secured a document for a cultural city project set to begin bidding in three years. I promise it'll be yours. You have my word!" "Three years?" Justin's voice dripped with mock gratitude. "How kind of you. But before you decide, let me show you something." Justin tapped his phone, sending a video. Moments later, Rafe's sharp intake of breath was audible through the call. His voice quivered with both fear and rage. "You… You set me up? How could you?" The video showed Rafe, naked and debauched on a couch, flanked by two unclothed women. If this got out, he'd be ruined.

Raf turned his gaze towards his Honey Bee. “Come, let me show you our 1st meeting again, and then I’ll tell you why I did that,” Raf said, and they came towards the bed. They settled down on the bed and faced each other. Raf raised his hand and kept his index finger on her forehead. He closed his eyes and thought about their 1st meeting. Saraya started getting the flashes of their 1st meeting, and it ended when Raf left from there. “What? You were sitting on the railing? Were you planning for a suicide?” Saraya asked in a shocked tone.

He wasn’t winning this time. I turned back to Rafe. He hadn’t moved. Just stood there, a shattered ruin of the man I used to know, staring at me like if he stared hard enough, maybe I’d crack or change my mind. "Let’s go," I said, my voice calm, almost bored. "Unless you’d rather humiliate yourselves in front of the courthouse security cameras." Rafe opened his mouth—I thought he was going to beg or even threaten for one more time—but what actually came out still managed to shock me.

Selena exhaled when the heavy doors closed behind them. Rafe stretched, yawning dramatically. “Well, my job here is done. I’m going to find whiskey and someone gullible enough to listen to my war stories.” He winked at Selena as he backed toward the hall. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” “Which is what? Kill someone or kiss them?” she muttered. “Both, if you do it right,” Rafe shot back, his grin sharp before he vanished. That left her alone. Alone with him.
