Chapter 33 Small flakes of bronze fell from my wings as I flew up to Sages level. The bronze flakes fell softly, like snow, spreading bronze flakes across the ground. Raziel was next to join me. His wings were gold, leaving gold flakes floating softly through the air. Raphael's wings were silver, shedding silver flakes rushing in the wind. It was then that I realized Rowen wasn’t with us. I knew he went to check on Katrina. Something bad must have happened to her, because he hadn’t returned.

He leaned forward, elbows on knees. Something scratched at his heel. He frowned and reached under the cot. There, tucked deep into a crack between floorboards, was a torn piece of parchment, curled at the edges. He pulled it free. The writing was faint, burned on one side. It read: "X. of Nightborn Blood—your claim must never be known. If the Council suspects"— The rest was gone and blackened to ash. Xavier's blood ran cold. "Nightborn...?" He said the name aloud.

Pearl looked at him confused. "Nobody cares about your bravery except you. Uncle Xavier here is even disappointed in you" He pointed towards the man who bowed his head in shame. "Well then, I must commend you, there is no ounce of possibility I could have imagined this coming. But I need to ask real quick before I leave, can you please produce the Lexicon file? I need to check the rules of the table real quick" Pearl stared at Raphael in disbelief. "Yes Pearl, where is the Lexicon file"

“This contains a purple bane. It will heal your cut, and give you extra time as a living being. All you have to do…is tell me where Rheagal is,” I was able to buy his interest with that treat. The desperation to live and the struggle not to betray Rheagal dwindled in his eyes like a flickering light. He mustered some energy and pointed at his desk.
