My heart starts pounding. Text appears beneath the image. “Your mother would like to meet you.” Coordinates follow. I stare at the screen for a long time. Subject Zero survived. The dimensional collapse did not kill her. The world tilts slightly as the weight of it settles in. Relief. Fear. Anger. Questions stacked on questions. Through the mate bond, Ethan feels it immediately. What is it, he asks. I send him the image. I feel his shock, his tension, his instinct to protect me rising like a wall.

That Felix is going to leave me alone, at least for a day to think, but instead, he starts laughing. “Run if you want,” he says, voice cold. “But don’t forget that I’m the Alpha.
