ALMOST PERFECT
They lay there for a few minutes in the quiet apartment, early light filtering through the thin curtains, dust motes drifting like unfinished thoughts.
“Grey,” she said gently, “what happened yesterday?”
There it was. Lisa had always known when to ask–not accusing, not fragile, just present.
He exhaled slowly. “I ran into someone.”
Her body stiffened—not dramatically, but enough for him to feel it.
“Someone… important?” she asked.
“Yes….used to”
She waited.
“My ex,” he said. “Evelyn.”
Lisa went very still.
Grey turned onto his side to face her fully, not wanting to hide behind half-truths or distance. “She came into the shop. For repairs. Neither of us knew.”
