Probably because the shelf was old and creaky; any part of it could be affected if I touch any other. As I raised my hand to put back the book in its shelf, I noticed the book seemed different from the others. It was blue, and had blue stones on it. “hmmm.” I opened the book, and what I read, caught my interest. *MYSTERY WORDS CAN’T BE SEEN, BUT CAN BE BROUGHT TO THE PAGES, BY FIRE.* It was weird, but I turned to the next page, and it was blank. I turned to another, and it was also blank, until I flipped the pages until the end, and realized everything was blank.

There is a bold font that caught my attention right away. Minding what you are doing is the key to slow down time. Maybe, all you need is to put down your phone and focus on the experience. Setting away distraction makes moment feels eternal. I take out my phone and capture the bold font sentences, together with the hand-written note. I quickly shove my phone inside my pocket as I heard footsteps behind me. After putting the book back to its place, I turn around and see Rosie rolled her eyes. Also, that scary guy who is following behind her, with the same sour facial expression as earlier.

He held up the book so I could see how much of it he had read. “You’re reading my vampire romance?” Obviously, I knew this already, but I still couldn’t believe he actually had it in his hands. I was more than a little embarrassed. “Well, yeah,” Brandon said, pulling it away from me. “Fangs of Love by Amber Rose. It’s really quite interesting. I’m doing research.” He said it in an overly romanticized voice and I could feel my face turning red. “Just give it here,” I whispered, reaching for it again. He held it just out of my reach.

They were priceless. Caitlin turned page after page, fingering the goldleaf, the beautiful illustrations, and reading closely the elaborate penmanship. It was in Latin, but Caitlin understood it. The book was about lost places. Caitlin read and read, and unlike the other books, it was riveting. She became intrigued. Her heart started beating faster, as she finally began to feel like she was onto something.

But I know deep inside that I don’t have the luxury or need to know. That’s not my purpose in her life. That’s not my assignment. "What book are you reading?” I asked her, gesturing at the book on the table. I noticed that it had two men on the front cover. “What is it about?” She points at the said book. "This one?" I took a sip from the cup then said, “Yeah.” “It’s a BL book.” I raised my brows. “BL book? What’s a BL book?” She smiled before answering and pursed her lips as she poured tea for me. She placed the pretty teapot on the tray and then looked at me with a funny look on her face. “BL book. It’s a book with illustrations of two grown men fucking.”

Words blur for a second. I blink, trying to focus. “It’s just… " You read it again,” I ask. She frowns slightly. “I did.” “Then read it slower you might have missed something.” She nods, even though I can tell that didn’t help. She starts reading again anyway. The baby cries again from the other room. louder than before Lily pauses mid-sentence. I feel it. The tension. Her eyes flick toward the sound. Then back to me.

Still my father's eyes even if the rest of him was slowly disappearing. We sat there for a minute not saying anything. "I need you to do something," he said, breaking the silence. "What?" "Read to me." Ahhh, that was new. I must have looked confused because he made an impatient gesture at the book on the side table. "That biography. The Churchill one. I'm halfway through and I want to know how it ends but my eyes keep going blurry after about five minutes of reading. Everything blurs together and I can't focus." The book was thick and heavy. One of those biographies that academics write.

I really love you. Through the lines, I only read his reluctance. Without hesitation, I blocked the number that I could recite even in my dreams. On the wedding day, Colin, covered in blood, crawled across the road and blocked our path. Through the car window, I saw him drag himself toward us. He shouted, "Selena, help me! I regret it so much. Come and see me." It was a horrific scene, making me jump. Lucien quickly covered my eyes. "Don't be scared. I'll have someone take him away."

It’s a heavy old thing, and by the time I get it over to the table, I’m out of breath and sweating like I just ran a marathon. Discarding the blanket, I start to read the little book, but the words are swimming in front of my eyes, and nothing’s making sense. Wiping sweat from my brow, I go back to the living area where Glenn left several bottles of juice and water. I grab something, I don’t know what, and on weak legs make my way back to the library.
