Cycle of Cliches
in Class Nine, I had read all the short stories in Nisim’s English text book. Back then, I felt that those stories ended quite abruptly, often leaving me with the feeling that the publishers only considered publishing a portion of the story. How foolish was it of me to look for missing pages while reading Ruskin Bond’s The Thief! This story ended with the thief starting to learn writing a little more than his name! And I was hoping that there would be pages describing what happened to the thief, after he had learnt reading and writing. The what-happened-next thing was missing from the story. I didn’t get to know whether the thief and his benefactor, the writer, Arun lived happily ever after
