Chapter Six Too Late Abe Regret was a funny thing. People always talked about it like it arrived all at once. Like a lightning strike. Like some dramatic realization that changed everything overnight. In reality? Regret came in pieces. Tiny little reminders scattered throughout your day. A song. A scent. A restaurant. A laugh that sounded almost like hers. And every single one felt like a knife. I stared out the floor-to-ceiling windows of my office. The city stretched endlessly below.

"I don't care. But make sure of one thing. Never regret your decisions right now. Because the way you're doing this might end up with something that will only hurt the both of us." Callum turned around. And left. Elise stood frozen in place. She watched her husband's back disappear down the hallway, then smiled bitterly. "Elise Voss," Elise whispered softly. "It seems I can finally accept that name now... after hearing it from you."

I looked out the window, watching the skyline fade. New York. The city that had broken and healed me all in one breath. When I turned back to him, Liam was already watching me. “Do you regret any of it?” I asked suddenly. He blinked. “What?” “Us. This trip. Everything that happened here.” “Not a second,” he said firmly. “Even if tomorrow the whole world finds out, I still wouldn’t regret a thing.”

The music kept drifting in from the porch like nothing had happened at all. And I stood there, a man who had spent ten years training himself not to care what anyone else considered important, caught entirely on one thought. I was absolutely Annabelle had no regrets whatsoever and, inconveniently, neither did I.

"Aurora! I told Damian I wanted to apologize, and I can't believe he brought you here. I know I was wrong that day. Will you forgive me?" I looked at Damian, but he just kept flipping through the auction catalog in silence. So that was the real reason for this trip. So Clara could apologize. The whole “clearing my head” excuse had just been a cover. I felt empty inside, as if something inside me had been hollowed out, but I didn't even have any tears left to cry. Clara reached for my hand, her eyes full of regret. "I really didn't mean to hurt you. I was just so excited. After being away so long, it's nice seeing everyone again, and I can't help but feel happy about it."

No one showed pity for those three people. Stella had been watching this quietly. She took a few sips of tea, and a cold look flashed across her eyes. This happened in her past life too. However, it was before she got married, and Eric had been out of the country. Noel did not stand by her side but barged into the old mansion with the Taylors. Old Mr. Chilton's heart softened after listening to the Taylors crying. He berated Noel's parents. Even though Noel's parents apologized, they found a new reason to kick out the Taylors not long after they returned home.

He deeply knew that if there was something he could do, he would have agreed to do it, but he knew that it was already too late. "How I wish you didn't make such bad decisions, you would have still been alive, I do forgive you, but it's so bad because I get to say it too late when you aren't available to listen to me at the moment, and I regret this," Thomas said shedding tears profusely. He knew that he couldn't place his words, but he knew deep down that he was very sorry and regretted that at the end of the day, he didn't get to accept Rosemary's apologies.

Ahtisa’s Pov “Look at this mess! Still can't clean a table properly?" Elena, my mother in law, voice echoed. “Then what are you good for?" I quickly bent down and started picking up the broken plates with my bare hands. My throat tightened. “I'm sorry, mother" The word came out of my mouth before I could stop it. All my life, I'd been sorry, whether I was in the right or wrong: I'm sorry for not responding to your text. I'm sorry for not heating your water. I'm sorry for living.

I wish I changed myself for the better and made amends to the people I have hurt. Too late for regrets. Wish I felt this sooner. Too late for guilt to consume me. I should’ve said sorry, sincerely. Too late for everything. I hoped for a second chance. I closed my eyes and waited for the impact. A loud crash can be heard from this place. It happened so soon.

"It was my own foolishness… One moment of greed, one wrong thought, and I reached for something I never should have. And now, my children suffer for my mistakes. Regret comes too late. The world truly does repay what it is owed." Carissa hesitated for just a second, then continued on her way without a word.
