Haley grinned bitterly. With her nails digging into her palms, her speech was hardly audible. "All right. Whatever you say.

One thought crystallized in her thoughts with a terrifying clarity. Just few days.

Few days. That's all that remains.

You want the house? The man? The business? It'll be all yours soon Lydia’ Haley thought.

*****

Haley was really cold when she got back home and to her room.

She was unable to stand properly. She used all of her remaining strength to open a drawer that had been closed for years.

Memories poured forth when it opened.

A teddybear in the shape of a heart from their first beach excursion.

A faded postcard from their vacation to England.

For their last Christmas travel, Kieran gave her a silver necklace with trepidation.

Additionally, a bundle of Kieran’s love letters was beautifully tied with ribbon.

Every piece had been meticulously preserved and treasured by her.

They felt hollow and ridiculous now, like props in a badly crafted lie, after what she had witnessed.

False.

The three years had all been a lie.

None of it was worth keeping.

Haley swept everything into the trash without saying anything.

Her temples throbbed as if they might burst open, and her vision whirled wildly.

After a time, she got dressed and fell onto the bed.

The door forcefully banged open the following second.

Wearing a pink tulle dress, Riley ran to the bedside and grabbed Haley’s arm, giving it a vigorous shake. "Auntie Haley, get up and play horse with me, just like before!" she exclaimed. "I want to be a knight."

Excitement flushed her face.

Haley was abruptly reminded of their first night a few months prior.

She had been engrossed in the fantasy of belonging to a family. Without hesitation, she would drop to her hands and knees on the carpet and allow Riley to clamber onto her back as if she were her own daughter.

Riley would chuckled with delight. Now remembered, Riley’s laughing sounded intolerably piercing. Haley had been unaware, even cooperative.

She felt sick to her stomach at the idea that she had ever seriously thought taking Riley as her goddaughter.

Haley forced herself to stand and gave her a steady gaze.

"Riley," she muttered, "have I been good to you?"

"Yes!" Riley gave a forceful nod. "You're the best! I wish you could be my real mommy!" she said happily.

"But you already have a mommy," Haley replied cautiously as she stumbled to her feet and seemed to be perplexed. "Why would you want me to be your mom?"

"Because I don't want you and Daddy to have a baby," Riley said naively, tilting her head. “Daddy will only adore me if you don't."

Abruptly, she gave Haley a strong neck embrace. "Please adopt me. I'll be good. I'll earn a lot of money and look after you when you're old and I’m grown up."

No three-year-old could have thought up such words on their own. She had been instructed by someone.

Haley’s blood became icy.

She shoved Riley away as a stinging sensation of bodily disgust swept through her.

Stunned, she collapsed backward into the carpet.

The moment Missy realized something wasn't right, she sprang onto the bed. Whimpering, the small Pomeranian nestled her warm body into Haley’s side.

Haley repeatedly caressed Missy until the constriction in her chest subsided, burying her hands in her fur.

"I have Missy," Haley whispered softly, shaking her head as she gazed down at Riley, who was sitting still on the floor. She had a disconnected, soulless expression. "I think that's plenty. Adopting a child is not something that interests me. I apologize, Riley.”

Riley stood there in shock for a short while.

She then let out an ear-splitting howl that reverberated throughout the room as her face crumpled.

Abruptly, she threw herself at Haley, slamming with startling power into her stomach. She clamped her jaws down on Haley’s arm and gave her a violent bite before she could recover.

Haley’s entire body trembled as she gasped. Sweat trickled down her face and dripped on her forehead.

The door banged against the wall, partially open.

With a terrified expression on his face, Kieran stormed into the room. "What's going on? Why is Riley sobbing on the ground?

"Daddy!" Riley exclaimed, rushing directly to Kieran without even looking at Haley. Clinging to him like a lifeline, she cried. With a shaking finger, she gestured to Haley. "Auntie no longer wants me! She shoved me after saying that I couldn't be her daughter. I fell really hard. Ouch I’ve hurt my left hand.”

Riley was raised into Kieran’s arms. "Is that what happened?" he asked, his eyes icy and piercing as he turned to face Haley.

Haley leaned feeble against the headboard and met his gaze with reddening eyes.

Kieran seems to come to a realization. "I'll take her out first," he murmured, softening his tone a little without letting go of Riley. "Don’t worry . I'll stay with you when I return."

With the sobbing youngster in his arms, he turned and walked away.

Dead quiet descended upon the room.

With her limbs losing power, Haley slumped back into the cushion. Then it dawned on her.

The lightheadedness intensified, surging through her in powerful surges. When had her anemia begun? It was almost two years ago. immediately following Lydia’s return from her maternity leave with Riley.

She had been fainting frequently at the moment for no apparent reason. Kieran had insisted that she take time off to recuperate because he was so worried. So Haley had agreed and resigned from working at Kieran’s company.

Back then, Haley had been friends with Lydia. Good pals. She personally recommended Lydia to Kieran, taught Lydia ensuring she understood everything, and made sure she could fully meet Kieran’s needs as vice president.

She had never questioned it. Never once.

However, something didn't add up now.

"Jude," she whispered said after taking her phone and calling Jude, "the hospital still has samples from my previous tests. Send them for a more in-depth examination.”

"I get it. Ma’am.” Jude responded.

As a bonus, Rhett had even brought Haley’s favorite grape cake. However, he had just purchased a hundred more servings and had the bakery send them directly to the female employees of Ty Group, keeping all staff in mind. He strolled toward the company's entrance while holding the cake. "Rhett!" He was ready to enter when someone called his name from behind. Rhett spun around and looked at the man for a short while. Then it dawned on him that this skinny, sun-kissed man was Kieran. In an instant, his eyes were icy. “You again, Kieran Colin.” With an excessively submissive tone, Kieran moved forward. “Don't get me wrong, man. I'm not here for Haley." Rhett gave him a blank stare. "And?" Kieran raised the fruit basket he was holding. “I dropped these off after a young woman from the workplace asked me to bring her some fruit,” "I've come to my senses," he continued. “I am aware that I am no longer suitable for Haley. I won't trouble her again as long as she's content.

After a moment of shock, Kitty’s thoughts went to a phone call she had received six months earlier. Could Eleanor have been the woman on the line, shattered and tortured beyond recognition? Her hands began to shake uncontrollably, and in that moment, a thought flashed across her head: if this was real, it was finally her chance to defeat Haley. The D’Souza would be furious if Haley had actually created a trap and delivered Eleanor to hell. With no chance of reconciliation, they would turn into the Kane' fiercest adversaries. Without a doubt, that would put Haley at the bottom of the Kane heir competition. Her reputation would be ruined if the allegations persisted and everyone thought she was capable of such a heinous deed. Her name would be spat on by Vest city’s elite. At that point, even Rhett would abandon her. What is the purpose of a marriage certificate? Haley would never enter the Fez Estate. She would never be in charge of the household if she didn't have a posit

Kitty scowled and let out a chilly chuckle. "Have to do? Haley, I see this for what it is—you just want to make yourself important in this family." Haley gave a headshake. "The Kane family has ample resources. That's not how I have to assert myself. However, Rhett and I are now married. Our interests are intertwined. We rise and fall together. He puts in a lot of effort operating a large firm and handling crisis after crisis. It is my responsibility as his wife to ease his burden and ensure that everything is in order at home. I'm not targeting you or anyone else in this family with what I'm doing right now. I'm just doing as a wife ought to." Kitty’s neck tensed. "Don't make yourself out to be some kind of saint." Haley looked her in the eye. "Mrs. Fez, after all these years married to Mr. Jason Fez, haven't you ever wanted to do something for this family or for your sons?" Kitty was unprepared. Her face became stern. "Everything is available to the Fez. What can I do?” Haley gr

Neither of them saw the automobile arrive at their apartment complex. A breeze dispersed cherry blossoms from the courtyard trees as they stepped outside, the petals falling like snowflakes across their shoulders. Haley stood on her tiptoes and instinctively leaned into Rhett as she reached up to remove a petal from his hair. He seized her, and they found themselves sharing a gentle, deep kiss beneath the falling flowers, the heat of something new blending with the easy closeness of long love. The surroundings vanished from view. Neither saw the eyes peering through the tinted window or the brand-new luxury vehicle parked close by. Building a new life in Africa had brought Kieran dangerously close to suicide. He had made roughly $6 million, which was sufficient to pay off his debts and leave him with about $1 million. He registered a new business, purchased a new vehicle, and located the tech partners who had collaborated with him from the start. They would return to the intern

Fabian spoke in a stern tone. "You've only indulged yourself over the years, Jason. And Kitty, since the day you married into this family, your focus has been on your own comfort and freedom. You've never worked yourself to the bone like Rhett, thinking about the future of this family. You spent your early years fighting with Jason all the time, and then you launched yourself into the life of a wealthy socialite. “You resented this family while happily enjoying every privilege it gave you. You don't compare to my wife or your grandmother-in-law as a wife, but I kept quiet out of respect for the three sons you brought into this family. You ought to examine your own actions,” Fabian looked across to the twins. "Roy, Riven, you spent your early years at school and were younger than Rhett. I never pushed you the way I pushed Rhett because I think grandparents shouldn't meddle in children's upbringing. But starting today, I want you to pay attention to Haley and Rhett. Become self-suffic

"I would like to call a family meeting with everyone. However, our parents haven't even had a formal meeting yet. If I intervened like this and began cutting costs, wouldn't it lead to animosity within your family?" Rhett took a while to respond. "I believe it's a good place to start. Let everyone see who the true head of the household is right away.” Still uncomfortable, Haley paused. "But won't this make things even worse between your mother and me?" He spoke in a steady tone. "It's preferable that she knows right away that you're not someone to bully if a conflict is unavoidable. I'll always have your back, so don't worry." "But she's your mother," Haley whispered. “Would we appear unfilial as a result of this?” After pausing, Rhett said, "We're considering the family's long-term future. Even the greatest wealth will run out if this kind of unrestrained spending persists. This must take place. Do not be scared. Take the necessary action.” Her confidence increased with his unw

Haley’s smile froze as she brought out a full pink princess dress. This outfit was obviously appropriate for Riley in terms of color, size, and style. Haley felt as though someone had squeezed her heart hard. Her heart began to race to its highest point as she locked her gaze on the outfit. "

Kieran took a long breath, suppressing the guilt that was eating away at him, and lay down next Haley."With the company expanding so quickly, work has been hectic. I haven't spent much time here, have I?” He spoke in a soft, quiet voice that sounded almost practiced. "How about we make that right?

Kieran came back by dusk with a dish of plain meals. "Haley," he asked placing it on the bedside table and standing with his back to her for a little before turning around, "did you really push Riley?" His voice was clearly irritated. Haley lowered her gaze. "Yes." His voice became harsher. "

Then Haley heard a voice she recognized. "I apologize, Lydia," Kieran murmured in a quiet, personal voice. "Haley’s appearance surprised me too. I'm sorry you had to deal with it.”Lydia has a beautiful, syrupy voice. "I'm accustomed to that by now, so it's okay. But Haley will be angry since you'v
