The night everything changed
She glides it across my lips, and I barely recognize the woman staring back in the mirror.
“Jess, you’re a knockout.” Ava steps back, admiring her work. “If anyone doesn’t turn their head tonight, they’re blind.”
I grab a pair of black heels from my mom’s closet, slipping them on with shaky hands.
Ava claps, practically bouncing with excitement.
“Let’s go! The cab’s already waiting.”
I glance at my reflection one last time before turning toward the door. My heart pounds in my chest, but something inside me feels… different.
