Emma mumbled as she served another spoonful of Russian salad on his plate. "Thin and Rasmus?" Angela asked in a gasp as she looked at Rasmus and then at her mom. "Mom, are you serious? The man looks like a giant," Angela exasperated. Aurora smiled softly and Hunter snorted. Emma glared at Angela and before she would scold her daughter, Xander grabbed her waist and pulled her down on his lap as she gasped.

I couldn't hear anything. "If there's a next life, I'd want to meet Amelie again." I made my wish in my mind. I wasn't sure how much time had passed, but when my lungs burned with the last protest, I quickly shot to the surface. After wiping my face, I opened my eyes. At that moment, Archie was taking off his clothes and preparing to dive in. When he saw me, he quickly stopped. He rubbed his shoulder and anxiously said, "You scared me, Mr. Scott! You were in there for so long! People started coming out of the spring after two minutes, but you didn't come up even after three minutes. I was about to go down and look for you."

He stayed rooted where he stood. Until that tall, rigid figure finally disappeared from the rearview mirror. "Aubrey, are you using me to dodge a bullet?" Jordan's face was all curiosity. "That cop had his eyes glued to you. But I swear—he looks familiar." I smoothed out the crumpled papers in my lap. "Owen Hughes." Jordan whipped his head toward me, nearly swerving. "Owen Hughes? The Owen Hughes? That legendary hero?" His reaction was so over the top I had to remind him: "It's him. Eyes on the road."

Ariadne doesn’t respond; instead, picking out a bottle of rum from the mini-fridge and mixing it with a can of coke. The water finally shuts off with a squeak. A moment later, Harry appears, clothed, with wet hair that he tousles dry with a towel. “Alright,” Ariadne hisses. “Speak. We gave you way more courtesy than you deserve.” Harry takes a seat without a snarky comment. He looks tired, not in the way that rest can solve. His skin is mottled and lifeless, and his eyes are dark as graveyard soil. There are two hideous scars where his scent glands used to be, and without them, he seems to be a wolf no longer.

Although he was right by addressing the visit as unpleasant because he had never up till this moment, had a pleasant conversation with Harry. “I see your workouts have been quite productive.” Harry mocked “keep it up and you could be in the championships next year.” The two men burst into laughter and when they noticed it upset Octavio very much, they stopped. He hated being the object of ridicule. “What do you want?” he asked rudely. “I’m detective Jim” one of the men with Harry introduced himself “and my partner detective Mills.” “I can see that. You guys are not that difficult to identify” Octavio said casually “I asked what you guys wanted with me. Am I in any sort of trouble?”
