The house is still, but everything feels unsafe. I stand on the deck, moonlight bouncing off the water like shards of glass. Aria joins me, wrapped in my robe over her nightdress. I wrap an arm around her. “We’ll handle it.” Rays of moon cross her face. “What are you hiding?” I swallow and look away. “Phoenix Requiem. The officiant asked, "Mr. Alan Godwin, do you take Ms. Brenda Larkin to be your wife?" Alan suddenly came to his senses and blurted out, leaving the whole room stunned, "You called the wrong name, didn't you? It should be Anna Samson."

The hall prepared for Late Alpha Mich Lorenzo’s burial was drowned in a heavy silence. Wolves from every corner of the region filled the long rows of seats, all dressed in deep black attire. The air carried a sorrowful weight that pressed on every chest. Candles lined the walls, their flames flickering weakly as the mournful hymn played through the hall. It felt as though even the Moon herself was grieving.

The air in the clearing crackled with the tension of two opposing truths. Jeff, solidifying with every passing second, was a monument to longing. The lie that I can just slide into the other shape scrapes like a collar that does not fit. I roll to my side and stare at the wall until the paint blurs. The house is too quiet. Let me fix that."* She plucks a string. The melody in Eden erupts, a scream that tears through his veins. He collapses, clawing at his chest as the gold light fractures, piercing his skin like needles. I lunge, but the Requiem flicks a wrist. The air solidifies, crushing me to my knees. *"Hush,"* she croons. *"This is a *mercy*."*
