The author avoids the easy 'enemies to lovers' trope and instead builds this profound, weary respect that turns into something else. You see them comparing notes on Viserys and Ned Stark, debating duty versus desire, and it just feels more authentic to both characters than any 'secret Targaryen reunion' plot. More fics should explore that angle of parallel lives converging.

Endings are tricky because you have to deal with the Dance, but the ones that handle it best let their union change the political landscape from the ground up, preventing the war through a new, solid alliance rather than just smashing two armies together.
