He didn’t answer. He backed out of the seam and scanned the floor. He crouched. He touched one scuff with two fingers. “Small boots. Soft rubber. Pro weight. Not a runner. Not one of ours.”

I grab them, thanking her and shutting the door again. Taking a seat, I slip each one on. I pull them all the way up my leg until there’s only a small amount of skin showing between the top of the boot and the bottom of my dress. There are laces on the back of the boots that fall to mid-calf. The boots are a perfect fit. I have no idea how Beck knew the things he did, but by the first outfit and the way it fits, he didn’t do bad at all when he filled out the information for the appointment.

“The only way to ease the pain is to train through it. But tomorrow will be easier—mostly stretches and stamina work.” His reassurance didn’t help much. I nodded, resigned. The thought of seeing Lauren again made me want to curl up under the covers and hide. After clearing the trays, Ryker hesitated by the door before walking back toward me. They were here. Through the haze of smoke and dust, I saw them. Four men, moving with slow, predatory confidence toward the wreckage. Then, I saw the boots, they were heavy, steel-toed combat boots, the leather scarred and reinforced with strange, rusted metal plating around the ankles. There was a specific notch on the heel of the lead man’s boot, a detail that sent a jolt of paralyzing shock through my veins as I recognised it immediately.

“Get dressed, and I’ll take you to Rocco.” Moments later, I stepped out wearing a pair of jeans, Timberland boots, and a long-sleeved shirt. Griff’s gaze wandered up and down my form, and he curled his lips into a grin. The corner of my mouth lifted. He hadn’t once let his gaze wander over my naked body, even though he was devouring my clothed form with his eyes. When he wanted to, he could be the consummate gentleman. But I knew better. **LEA’S POV** As Easton wished, I finally went out for a stroll. There were a few items I wanted to buy after seeing their stunning display on the cover of this week’s fashion magazine. One of them was a pair of brown boots with black laces from Gusy’s latest collection. They immediately caught my eye, especially since only a hundred pairs were made in each size. Luckily, I managed to snag a pair at the last second. “These are perfect,” I thought as I admired the exquisite details. They’d be great for casual outings—maybe even a picnic. Boots have always been my favorite, and I’ve always had a soft spot for new models that look this good.

He opened his wardrobe and at the bottom I could see a dozen pair of silver plated boots. He picked out a pair and handed them to me, holding them by a small part of it at the back that was still canvas. I carefully collected them and I realized that the boots had no laces or straps. They were made to hug the feet as had a slight elasticity as you slid your leg into them. They were light, lighter than they looked and sounded and I went to my room and retrieved my custom one armed jacket. I got back to the parlour and I saw Tia already in her silver sneakers.

Even his leather boots had steel toecaps, making him look every inch a bad boy biker who liked to crush skulls beneath his feet.
