They consisted of a simple white blouse, a long brown skirt, and, to my surprise, a pair of brown boots with low heels.
I hesitated. I had never been allowed to wear shoes before. These looked like they would fit me, but I found the laces intimidating. Taking a chance, I pulled the boots on and cinched the laces tight, frowning as I wiggled my feet within their tight leather confines. It was an odd sensation, but it sparked a flare of defiance in me.
Stumbling a little in my new boots and wincing as I put all of my weight into my injured leg, I hobbled to the door and opened it. Rhys was waiting in the hallway for me, my guards from last night nowhere in sight.
