Honestly, most fics with these two focus on the fluff, which is fine, but I keep craving something that digs into the inherent tragedy of their dynamic. Rimuru's basically immortal and sees the world through this complex political and power lens, while Milim is an emotionally stunted child-goddess who lost everything and just wants a playmate. The best plot I've read recently had Milim slowly realizing Rimuru is trying to 'manage' her like another piece on his chessboard, not truly be her friend. It's not out of malice—he cares!—but his nature as a Slime and a ruler means he calculates. Her having a quiet, devastating meltdown over that realization, not a destructive rage but a deep sorrow, hit so hard.
That story then flipped it by having Rimuru, who thinks he's being a good friend by giving her candy and pats, utterly bewildered by her withdrawal. His journey to understand emotional depth, not just mimic it, through her pain was the real plot. It used their established canon personalities but pushed them into uncharted, uncomfortable territory. More of that, please. Less 'Milim drags Rimuru to a festival,' more 'Milim wonders if her only friend pities the broken weapon she is.'
