Chapter 6

Ambrose and Matthew changed into some linen clothes before going to the bonfire party that night. Matthew tried holding Ambrose's hand as they walk along the shore, but just like earlier, he walked in front of him. He could only sigh as he watched him. Matthew desperately tried to think of what he might've said or done that night, but he couldn't remember anything.

Matthew could only sigh as they reached the party. Ambrose didn't take long before he was socializing with people. Matthew tried getting in on the conversation but his mind was too preoccupied with the night before. He decided to just grab some drinks before going back to Ambrose and handing him one.

It didn't take long for the two to start dancing near the bonfire, their bodies tangled together as they dance to the beat. It's as if everything that happened last night was long forgotten. Matthew watched as the glow from the bonfire grazed Ambrose's face. He truly looked beautiful. Ambrose's eyes are closed as he enjoyed the music, his body moving along with the beat. Matthew's heart started to beat faster in his chest.

He stood in front of Ambrose, looking like a creep, watching him enjoy the night. Ambrose opened his eyes and walked closer to Matthew, wrapping his arms around Matthew's neck. Matthew's hands found their way to Ambrose's waist before he leaned down and captured his lips in a kiss. Ambrose froze and he was quickly snapped out of his drunken haze.

He pushed Matthew away from him, his heart beating like a hammer pounding against the wall. Matthew opened his mouth to apologize, but Ambrose pushed past him and made his way back to the beach house. Matthew didn't follow him and Ambrose felt a little disappointed when he saw that he was walking away alone.

He knew he was the one who pushed him away, but a part of him wished that Matthew would follow him. Matthew on the other hand decided to just give him some space. Matthew continued drinking as Ambrose was alone in the beach house. He decided to just get ready for bed and wait for Matthew to come back, but after a few hours, he still hasn't come back.

Ambrose was starting to get worried, so he decided to go back and look for him. Ambrose didn't see him among the crowd. Ambrose's worry start to deepen so he walked further down the beach and saw two figures against a tree. Ambrose walked closer and found Matthew leaning against the tree and a woman all over him.

It sparked something inside Ambrose. He felt an overwhelming amount of jealousy and anger that he's never felt before. Sure, he saw a lot of men and women flirt with Matthew after they were married, but it never bothered him until now. He wanted to rip that woman's throat out and punch Matthew in the face, but he decided to just leave.

As he was about to turn and leave, Ambrose noticed something wrong. Matthew's arms were limp beside him and he looked barely conscious. The alarms went off in Ambrose's brain and he quickly ran over to the two and pulled the woman away from Matthew. Matthew fell onto the ground and Ambrose cursed under his breath.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" the woman screamed at Ambrose's face.

He ignored him and went straight to Matthew, helping him up from the ground. Matthew could only groan in response.

"What the fuck did you give him?" Ambrose asked the enraged woman.

"I didn't give him anything! He's my boyfriend you dumb shit! I can do anything I want to him!" The woman exclaimed.

Ambrose wanted to strangle the woman right then and there, but he had to take care of Mathew first. The woman wouldn't stop screaming as Ambrose dragged Matthew away. Drool started to flow out of Matthew's mouth and Ambrose was getting even more worried. Two bouncers from the party approached them and the woman suddenly stopped screaming and tried to run away, but one of the bouncers caught her.

"Sir, do you need help?" The bouncer asked.

"Yes, please. Can you call an ambulance? I think my husband may have consumed something other than alcohol," AMrbose said.

The bouncer nodded and called an ambulance as he helped Ambrose sit Matthew down on the chair. Matthew was mumbling incoherent words with his eyes struggling to stay open. They tried getting him to drink water, but he would just spit them back out. The ambulance soon arrived with a police car behind him.

The paramedics went straight to Matthew and carried him into the ambulance. Ambrose followed them and he saw the woman protesting as the police escorted her into the car. Ambrose could barely process what was happening as the ambulance drove to the nearest hospital. He tried giving the medics as much information as he could about Matthew's state. Matthew was getting injected with a bunch of stuff, but AMbrsoe could barely keep up with them.

They reached the hospital and Ambrose was asked to stay in the lobby as they treat Matthew inside the emergency room. Ambrose dug his hand into his pocket to take out his phone in order to update their family about what happened, but then he quickly realized that he didn't bring his phone with him. Ambrose sighed in frustration and slumped across the chair. He glared at the clock on the wall, urging time to go faster, but every minute was more torturous than the last.

Ambrose was finally called by a doctor and he quickly went to Matthew's side. Matthew was asleep, but he seemed better than he did before.

"Hello, I'm Dr. Mariano. I treated Matthew today," Dr. Mariano said.

"I'm Ambrose," Ambrose replied.

"May I ask what your relationship is with the patient?" she asked.

"I'm his husband," he replied.

"Okay so, we already sent a blood sample to the lab to find out what may have been given to him. We flushed most of it out of his system, but it's best for him to stay here so we can observe him," Dr. Mariano said.

"Yes, sure. Thank you, doctor," Ambrose said.

"Would you prefer a private room?" she asked.

"Yes, please," Ambrose said and Dr. MAriano nodded before leaving them alone.

Ambrose sighed and took Matthew's hand in his. He regrets leaving Matthew alone after pulling away from the kiss. He didn't know why he was reacting that way. For the first time in his life, his feelings towards Matthew confused him. He always knew he loved him, but now he wasn't sure what kind of love he had for him.

Ambrose pulled away as the nurses came in to transfer Matthew to a private room. The nurses advised him to go home for a bit and grab a few essentials and maybe rest a bit before coming back here. Ambrose refused at first but after a few more nudges from the nurses, he finally went back to the beach house. He quickly packed an overnight bag and made sure to grab his phone and charger before going back to the hospital.

Matthew was still asleep when he came back. Ambrose sent a quick message to their family group chat before turning his attention back to Matthew. His eyelids start to flutter as Ambrose approached him. Ambrose smiled and sat in the space beside Matthew as his eyes opened.

"How are you feeling?" Ambrose asked.

"Like shit," Matthew said, his voice sounding extremely tired.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have left you alone," Ambrose apologized.

"Don't worry about it. It's fine. It's my fault for drinking too much," Matthew chuckled.

He soon realized that he wasn't at home. His brows furrowed as he saw all the wires attached to him and all the white walls.

"What happened?" he asked.

"You might've gotten drugged, Matt. Do you not remember?" Ambrose asked and Matthew shook his head.

"Are we in a hospital?" he asked and Ambrose nodded.

"Take a rest, Matthew. We'll deal with this tomorrow, okay?" Ambrose said before kissing Matthew on the forehead.

Matthew nodded and closed his eyes again. Ambrose sighed as he went back to sit on the couch. His phone was blowing up with messages from their family asking for more details about what had happened, but Ambrose couldn't find the energy to talk to them. He laid down on the couch, preparing to sleep, but the notifications start to bother him.

Ambrose sighed and grabbed his phone before opening the messages. His sister sent him an article showcasing a picture of Matthew and the woman from earlier. Ambrose cursed under his breath. The headline stated, Matthew Hunt was found having an affair days after he and his husband were found exiting a fertility clinic.

Ambrose groaned in annoyance, but he didn't want to deal with it yet. He just wanted to make sure that Matthew was okay first. Ambrose turned off his phone and laid back down on the couch. Ambrose sighed before trying to sleep again. He just wished that things wouldn't blow out of proportion the next day.
