Why can’t the protagonist’s fulfillment be a communal one? Rimuru’s whole ethos has been about building a society in which everyone can belong, and his personal end point, the society he has built, is all the more poetically consistent because it is not a romantic couple, but rather a single person at the heart of a vast web of connections with countless others, none of more importance than the others. Our dissatisfaction with this answer is a comment on our deeply ingrained narrative expectations, not on the quality of the story itself.

Picking characters who could challenge Rimuru can be tricky since he’s a powerhouse. However, I think someone like 'Goku' from 'Dragon Ball' would be a serious contender. Goku’s Saiyan abilities and mastery of Ultra Instinct allow him to push beyond limits, which might give him a shot at outmaneuvering Rimuru. 'Zeno' from 'Dragon Ball' also comes to mind as an entity who can erase universes. Every encounter would be interesting because Rimuru adapts and evolves, making any battle unpredictable. Not to mention his reality-warping powers could very well catch opponents off guard. Exploring different character dynamics is the charm of ACGN, right? Their abilities are both fascinating and vast!

Rimuru Tempest is this ridiculously charming protagonist who starts off as your average salaryman in modern Japan—until he gets stabbed and wakes up in a fantasy world as a slime. Yeah, a slime! But not just any slime; he’s got this insane ability called 'Predator' that lets him absorb and mimic anything he eats. In Volume 1, we see him name himself after the storm that forms when he befriends Veldora, this legendary dragon sealed in a cave. The whole dynamic between them is hilarious—Veldora’s this over-the-top, dramatic guy, and Rimuru’s just vibing, taking it all in stride.

What’s wild is how quickly Rimuru adapts. He’s not some overpowered hero from the get-go; he’s clever, using his slime form to experiment and grow. By the end of the volume, he’s already forming bonds with monsters in the Jura Forest, setting up the foundation for his future nation. The way he treats everyone, even goblins, with respect makes you root for him instantly. It’s like watching a cozy, chaotic family come together, and you can’t help but grin at his antics.
