I sighed, leaning back in my chair.
"Sometimes," I began, choosing my words carefully, "we have to take risks, even if we're scared. What's the worst that could happen? He says no?"
"That would hurt," Violet muttered, staring into her coffee.
"It might," I admitted. "But it would hurt more to live with the regret of not trying."
She didn't respond immediately, and I could see the conflict in her eyes. She was weighing my words, considering them carefully.
Before I could say anything else, a shadow fell over our table, and I looked up to find Mr. Pierson standing there with his usual easy smile.
"Ladies," he greeted, his voice smooth and pleasant.
