“Okay. How does it start?” “We start with introductions,” Marco said, scooting his chair closer to mine. “We’d normally introduce ourselves and our roles—Dominant, submissive, switch—but for the sake of this exercise, let’s say I’m going to top and you’re going to bottom. Does that work?” I took a breath. Even the words stirred something in me, a mix of nerves and a deep, almost instinctual recognition. To name the roles, even in a role-play, felt like an act of intimacy. “Yes.”

Greta added. I know about that because that's really on their list. In this game, it is said that this theater will act as another character so that you can give justice to that character. Remember? I'm good at that. I always get the lead role but, in this game, it looks like role-playing because it is instant and not on stage. Do you see it? There are salts.

The light is low, casting a sensual glow about the room. “What exactly are we doing here?” She asked. “Our relationship is not even real and you want us to stay here!” She added “Relax! At dinner last night I saw your eyes! Was that acting or real?” He asked. “Is all acting please, we signed a contract and we need to focus on it.” she snapped. “ let’s pretend we are still acting,” “relax act your script, we didn’t exclude a hotel act. We can act anywhere.” He replied.

"You, Bryan! I know you have ugly handwriting! The uglier, the more fun it is. Come and join me here!" The crowd went on laughing, and Bryan came to the stage looking a bit shy. "We don't have an opportunity like this always, we might as well make it fun and challenging, hahaha, so here's what you're going to do." She continued. "Count how many of us are in this room. And then write on the paper the roles. There should be victims, killers, militants, and of course, doctors." Everybody immediately got the flow of the game. "I guess this was a typical game for young teenagers. We played this too back in the days." Bryan said

There were grasses on the ground, the walls were taken down, making it look as though the place was extending way beyond the horizon. “I know you’re not working on your teamwork, but I want us to have a move on. Let’s just refine it along the way.” Mr. Heirt took a parchment between the pages of a thick ancient-looking book. “We’ll use the time of my subject to talk about the roles each of you will play in the game and may I just remind you that whatever role I’ll put you is in accordance to your performance to the audition. I don’t want to hear any complaints.”

And there, in the center of the code, was Julian's designation: FINAL_BOSS_TIER_S_MARIONETTIST_ACTIVE. Directly below it: PLAYER_PRIMARY_CAMRYN_CHAVEZ_STAGE_III_ACTIVE. And listed in supporting code: PLAYER_SECONDARY_AMON_CAELAN... PLAYER_SECONDARY_MIRANDA_CASTELLAN... on and on through everyone I'd met, everyone I'd fought beside. All of them marked as PLAYER types. Real people transmigrated into the game. None of them marked as NPC. "They're real," I breathed.

I squeezed Jonas’s hand before moving to Osirus’ side as he called everyone to order. “Our first game is to see how many kills you can obtain in half an hour, only using your Goddess-given abilities. We will hunt in teams of ten. The winner will get their choice of a date partner for tonight. The date will be at any restaurant in the area and paid for by my father. The words were nothing but a carefully constructed, filtered, and hashtagged lie, but watching the follower count tick up to 805, 806, and 807 brought a terrifying realization. This wasn't just a lie anymore; it was a full-blown performance, and the curtain had just gone up. Grabbing the same hoodie from last night to use as a new costume, pulling it on, and looking in the mirror revealed someone who didn't look like a boyfriend at all, but rather just a nervous nursing student about to throw up. Role-playing was almost a nightly occurrence. Sometimes we would stage our role-plays outside the safety of our home. On many occasions, I have 'picked her up' in bars. We've also role-played at restaurants, and even on street corners. In case you're thinking that I was responsible for initiating these games, you would be wrong. Most of the time it was Anna who chose the role-playing scenario. Her favorites were forced sex, bondage, and being a submissive little slut.
