We’ve all read them right? Those sappy romance novels, the ones where some handsome stranger rescues the damsel in distress. He’s wealthy like no other and adores the ground she walks on. There’s some life altering event, a struggle of some kind but it gets resolved and they live happily ever after.

He said whether sinister smile and I feel my cheeks become a tomato red like I’m giving a competition to a rose flower. We didn’t speak as he is enjoying my coffee and he offered sometimes to take a few sips but I denied. After few minutes of comfortable silence he again said. “Why you always read these kind of books and that too romantic novel….GOD, I hate romantic novels they are too clingy to read.” he made a disgusting face by looking at my rated novel. I smile looking at him making different faces and replied.

The book store was right around the corner, enough to let Amy get few minutes of alone time. "what kind of book should I buy? These romantic novels make me feel extremely miserable about my life", she whispered. "Maybe I am on another planet unlike the characters in these books because I have never felt that way about any man before." Truly it was tiring and exhausting reading these books. Apparently, they make her expect things she would never get from Jack, thereby leaving her heart broken.

With a deep breath, I turned the first page of the romance novel, eager to immerse myself in its tender tale. The story unfolded like a delicate dance, a waltz of whispered promises and stolen glances. Each word painted a vivid picture in my mind, transporting me to a realm where love bloomed like flowers in spring. With every chapter, I found myself drawn deeper into the lives of the characters, their emotions becoming entwined with my own.

"Whatever happened to love each other first then... then doing the deed after. Is everyone after physical contact only these days? What about getting to know each other first? Chivalry? Romantic date?" I sighed and stopped spinning, facing my laptop and visiting a bookstore's site to see what books sell. Ah, of course, my book wouldn't be in the top 10, and I didn't hope so; what's staring back at me is the top 10 best-selling books for the week, where five of ten are Erotic Romance books. "And I thought my company wouldn't be like other companies who are after profit; I was wrong. Then again, business is business."

He held up the book so I could see how much of it he had read. “You’re reading my vampire romance?” Obviously, I knew this already, but I still couldn’t believe he actually had it in his hands. I was more than a little embarrassed. “Well, yeah,” Brandon said, pulling it away from me. “Fangs of Love by Amber Rose. It’s really quite interesting. I’m doing research.” He said it in an overly romanticized voice and I could feel my face turning red. “Just give it here,” I whispered, reaching for it again. He held it just out of my reach.

She raised her brows. “Seriously?” He narrowed his eyes at her. “Yes, seriously! Ah yous should check it out too, come I’ll read it out to you, it’s great!” She clapped her hands in excitement. “No thank you, you know I don’t read romance,” He shook his head. “But it’s a unique one,” She protested, “A popular mystery/thriller writer is thrown inside her own novel! How cool is that?” “Hmm?” he raised his brows. “Did it pick your interest?” She wiggled her brows. “Ah, the guy has the same name as you, by the way,” She added.

“Sophia loves reading novels—romance novels—but just like what I said, she is actually dense and almost oblivious with the men around her. It would seem that she is more fixated with the idea of what she reads rather than real men, but, of course, I can’t say that she has not had a real boyfriend ever…”

My thoughts quickly drift back to the stack of novels, and I reach for my tote bag, pulling out the first book my hand touches. Reading romance novels is not exactly good for my mental health, but I cannot seem to stop myself. They make me laugh, they make me cry, and sometimes they make me wish for something similar in my own life. But deep down, I know that is just a fantasy. I know I cannot have it, not now, maybe not ever.
