If someone had walked by this early and glanced in, they would have seen me and my sister enjoying a nice breakfast and talking quietly. We had a fairly mundane but relaxing conversation about our college experiences...at first. After everything we had shared over the past two months, Jeannie finally felt comfortable opening up to me about some of her sexual exploits since she started college. I'm sure it would have blown my mind to hear those stories only a couple of months earlier. Now, I just nodded or laughed along. I had mentioned my roommate, Kyle, and his sister when we had talked on the phone weeks earlier. Now I shared that whole bizarre story with Jeannie.

Today she's blocking me from kicking her with my long legs. “You guys are so funny,” I reply sarcastically. They love to tease me about my lack of relationships. Which I usually don’t mind, but today I’m at my wit’s end. It’s not that I don’t believe in it. I just can’t trust anyone enough to spend my life with. I’m not a nun, I just limit contact with guys to the physical part. “Seriously, I don’t mind going back to Brooklyn, but I’m going to miss my apartment so much.” The thought of leaving the place where I made so many memories with my mom makes my eyes sting. “It looks good on ya. You just look like a grown up, but I know better so …” She went to kick his shin but he dodged her, swiping her bags and starting toward the spare bedroom upstairs. “Can’t I stay downstairs?” Lucas stopped on the first step and looked back over his shoulder. “Nah, I have a roommate.” Delaney gave him three lazy blinks and looked around. “You what?” He shrugged his shoulders like it wasn’t a big deal. “It’ll be fine, swear.”

•.• Skylar •.• “I’m Room 16,” Harper said, staring at her phone. “Queens Hall.” She looked up at me. The school had sent out details of students’ dorm rooms and every other vital piece of information through email. “What room are you?” she asked, and I pursed my lips, staring down at my phone. “Room 17…” I was interrupted when Harper shrieked and threw her arms around me. “Our rooms will be right next to each other!” she grinned, and I cocked my head to the side.

Tatiana was alarmed to see me. Tahlia had not assigned me any tasks, so I switched to polite mode. “Hello, Tatiana,” I said sweetly with a little curtsy. I could see her face slowly twist, and she seemed angry. “Fake! You’re so fake! Urgh!” “Tatiana, what are you talking about?” An elderly lady with a cane appeared from behind her. She squinted at me and pulled out her reading glasses. “And who is this?” “Grandma, this is my friend, Yvonne Zane. I switched dorms, and she’s my new roommate.”

I promise! Finally, as you would've guessed, "Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend" is coming to an end soon. Specifically, in August. No worries, the next book in the "Roommates" series will kick off right after, focusing on a different character and her/his future after this phase. My teammates hit me with a string of question marks when my hero stood idle and failed to hold the base. Frustrated, I quit the game and opened WhatsApp. The message was from Jacob Zeller, who lived downstairs from me. He was my roommate in college. There were four of us sharing a dorm, and we were pretty tight. While we were interning, we decided to job hunt together and moved into a cheaper apartment to lower our rent. Once everyone had a job, our hours were all over the place, so we each got an apartment to keep from getting in each other's way. We still grab a meal together from time to time.

The story was like a well-worn comforter, familiar and comforting despite its predictability. As I reached the end of the story, I saw an ad that read, "Searching for a roommate who can give me inspiration." At first, I thought it was strange for someone to ask for inspiration from a roommate, but I didn't dwell on it since Ren was finally emerging from the elevator, looking stunning in his well-chosen clothes. I stood up to greet him, but he seemed more interested in the fact that I was reading the newspaper. He grabbed the paper, saw the ad, and gave me a smug grin. I could tell he was up to no good.
