Once outside the stadium, Monica pulled Rose from my side and I heard her whisper, “Tell me if I was fired so I won’t come to office in the morning and embarrass myself.”
“He will not fire you, Monica,” Rose replied and hugged her friend. “Thank you for the best evening of my life.” She kissed her on the cheek. “Drive safe.”
Monica turned to me and said in a rush, “Good night, Mr. Ryan.” And, then without waiting for my response, she got in her car.
Rose came back to my side as I walked with her to where Gavin was standing beside the car. “How are you feeling today, Rose?” Gavin asked, settling behind the steering wheel.
