Russian Roulette: One Life Novels & Stories

Cassian’s fingers played with my nipples, pinching and tugging harder, while his other hand guided the gun’s movement inside me, pushing, twisting, pulling—slowly, torturously. “Now you’re wet…” he murmured, voice low, cruelly amused. “I still have more questions… But we will play a game.” His tone came dark. “What kind of game master?” My trembling voice asked. “It is called Russian Roulette,” he said, and my heart dropped… I’ve heard about this deadly game before. The one where a revolver holds a single bullet, and players take turns pulling the trigger, hoping the chamber is empty. The one where someone always loses.

My eyes went dead, he was the reason why I was shot, why our child died. The man was shaking looking like he wanted to pee in his pants, I knew Matteo better he wouldn't kill him, he was more of a mind game torture kind of guy. "Do you want to play Russian roulette?" he asked. The man's hands trembled as he reached for the gun. He knew that if he refused to play, he would be killed. If he played, he had a one-in-six chance of survival. "Who else?" Matteo said in his authoritative voice and the man pointed to a bald man.

"Russian roulette? Derek, tell me you're joking." Derek stared at his phone screen like it might change if he looked hard enough. "That's what it says. 'The game has changed. Russian roulette. One bullet, one chance.'" My knees gave out. I grabbed the nearest marble pillar in the lobby to keep from falling. "He's going to kill you." "Maybe it's a metaphor." Derek's voice cracked. "Like, you know, one shot at winning?"

"I'm sorry, Caitlyn. I had misunderstood you. I couldn't marry you in this life, but if there's a next life, I'll marry you as soon as I can." She rolled up her sleeve, revealing a new tattoo. It was a photo of us from when we were together. Through her tears, she said, "It's okay. I’ll never forget you. In the next life, I'll wait for you to marry me." Now free of attachments, I felt lighter. Slowly, I began to lose control over my form, and I realized my time in this world had come to an end. For the first time, I felt true peace. It was as if I was showing the living that death was not the end of life, but rather, the beginning of a new journey.

I asked, "Have you heard of people biting the hand that feeds them? Do you think I'll save you a second time after being bitten once?" She stared at me in horror, like I was a monster. "You've been lying to me this whole time!" I smiled and said, "Congratulations on guessing correctly! You love lying to people, so it's time for you to get a taste of your own medicine. Isn't it nice?" Wanda screamed in rage. Then, she choked to death as blood gurgled in her throat. She stared at me in horror and disbelief as she died. I'd had the same look on my face when dying in my past life. Now, I'd gotten back at her for everything she did to me. She'd repaid the debt she owed me.

she answered, and Nero nodded. “You see, baby, this revolver holds a single bullet in one of its chambers. Spin the cylinder, pull the trigger, and pray that fate is on your side.” “So let’s play a game; if I say my name wrongly, then I pull the trigger on myself. If you say your name wrongly, then I will pull the trigger at you,” he explained, and Lena’s eyes widened in shock when Nero pointed the gun at himself. “My name is Dante,” he said, then pressed on the trigger when Lena’s eyes widened in shock. Nero chuckled.

“Poor thing. She finally made it to sixteen, and still didn’t survive…” Mary raised her head and looked at her. “It’s not Bella,” she said. “It’s Clara.” Ms. Hill froze. The expression on her face shifted from pity to shock, and then to something else. Her voice rose, loud enough for the whole yard to hear. “Clara is dead? Wasn’t it Bella who was supposed to be taken?” No one answered her. She stood there, holding a fur bag. Her mouth moved faster than her thoughts as she muttered, “This… the one who should die didn’t, and the one who shouldn’t did…”

he asks, eyes wide with exaggerated surprise. "Bite me death boy. There are more pressing matters at hand." I say, rolling my eyes. "Ah, yes. The one named Mason still troubles you. Would you like for me to kill him?" he asks, his scythe standing next to me, shining to let me know that its there. I shake my head. "Death isn't the answer for everything. I just want you to let me know what Mason's plans are." Death shakes his head. "Though as entertaining this is, the affairs of the still living are none of my concern. You'll have to speak to my opposite; Life."

"I choose you dying screaming." "Wrong answer." She pulled the trigger. Click. Empty chamber. Russian roulette. "Lucky. One in six chance. Let us try again—" "Catherine wait—" I stepped forward. Hands raised. Desperate. "The fortune. Take it. All of it. Right now. I transfer everything. You let Hope go. You win. Completely. Totally. Everything you wanted."

I asked, more intimidated by the second. "Don't worry. None of them is going to harm you," Caishen assured, but I was doubtful. "We're going to play a little game." He took out a revolver from his jacket's pocket and put it on the table. "You're kidding me right?" I laughed hysterically. I knew that this man was insane, but I couldn't see anything "safe" about playing a game that required a gun. He smirked. "Have you ever heard of Russian Roulette?" he asked while taking out two bullets and placing them in two random cylinder chambers.
