“Should we go down? Or should we, I don’t know, barricade the stairs and prepare an offering for whatever cosmic disaster is coming?” I take a deep breath. “We go down. We act normal. We don’t panic Ruby unless we have to.” When we step into the living room, Ruby is humming cheerfully… but her face falls the moment she sees me. “What’s wrong?” she asks immediately. I freeze. Ruby is chaotic. Dramatic. Loud. Half-feral in the mornings. But she is not stupid,she can smell worry like a bloodhound. “Nothing,” I lied. I shrugged and continued on my quest, I had my own burden and no space for hers. It was getting dark and I sat at my window sill, mixed emotions about returning to school swirling within me. A figure moved in my peripheral vision making my head snap up. It was Ruby sneaking into JB's quarters and I shook my head, I was no saint but I certainly pitied these girls. I guess I was wrong about this duo because less than two minutes later, Ruby stormed out of JB's quarters and angrily matched towards the front door. Something was definitely up with them and I couldn't help but wonder why.

Ruby groaned and turned, immediately catching both angel's attention, then Sariel rushed to her side and noticed she was in distress. "A bad dream?" Maël asked, "A vision!" Sariel answered. He placed his two fingers again on her forehead like he had done before and the scenery changed; they'd both transpired into her vision, Ruby's in the middle of nowhere; by herself. She looks scared. Sariel watches her keenly as she tries to find a way. Then they both hear a voice, a call; "Help me!!!" The voice called, "Somebody please help me," and as if on instinct, Ruby follows the voice to a pit. It's not too deep,just about the girl in its heights and a helping hand away from getting her out.

Get other men's scent on you and Cassian will grow crazy with jealousy!" Ruby had that light in her eyes. The one that said she was on a path and would not be convinced to take another. And inspite of myself, I felt a faint stirring of hope. Ruby, who could always read me so well, noticed it and grinned. "You know I'm right," she said. "In fact, I think we should have done this first." "How are you sure this is going to work?" "Well... there is no harm in trying, is there? If it doesn't work, then we can finally stop."

Van shook his head, questioning, "What happened? How did you leave the house in the first place?" Instead of answering him, she kept staring at the grass in front of her and the vision from earlier came to her. The place those brutal ladies burned the others to stake. Ruby turned around, realizing how its the same place the vision took her to. That the resemblance between the lady, that was shouting at the pleading woman, and Clara was undeniable. She was spiralling, convinced she'd become something monstrous, and every second he delayed getting to her made it worse. The forest grew denser as he approached the border territory, ancient pines towering overhead and blocking out most of the moonlight. Seth's enhanced night vision picked out the familiar landmarks, the lightning-split oak, the moss-covered boulder formation, the old deer trail that led to the abandoned safehouse. Ruby's scent grew stronger, tinged with the acrid smell of fear and something else that made his wolf whine. Magic. Power. I asked carefully, doing my best to keep my voice steady, though my heart raced at a pace I hadn’t felt in years. Ruby shrugged, casting a quick glance at her brother. Rhett looked away, his cheeks tinged pink with embarrassment. “We just… figured it out,” Ruby said softly. “I mean… you know Mom really well, and…” she trailed off, giving me a once-over with a shy smile. “You kind of look like us.” The resemblance was just... too much to ignore. As she picked up the cloth she was sewing earlier, a golden glow enveloped her fingers and her eyes slowly became golden as well. “We promised that we would never spin those threads ever again,” Rubai followed with a frown.

Their faces was so close to each other. Ruby said in a calm voice, “I was going to light the lantern for my Grandmother Willow.” “Who?” “My grandmother.” “You have no grandmother.” Ruby didn’t reply.
