Chapter Two

With time I got accustomed to the Peters' house and important details about them such as the address. Aunty made me memorise her phone number and I took a mini tour of some parts of the estate, more like a few streets around ours just in case of necessities. One could never be too cautious.

One particular house caught my attention, It was different from all the other houses in the estate in terms of structure and paintings and exterior decor too.

It was an estate so all houses were built in the same structure but you could add a few finishing touches if you'd like but not something too extreme. This estate was for the rich and it was obvious the owners of that house were loaded.

It had been a week since I started living with the Peter's and I liked it. There's no place like home but it was something close to it. Aunty never for once made me feel like I wasn't her biological child, I hoped her attitude wouldn't change in the nearest future.

She treated me equally and that always made me happy. It also seems like she enjoys my company most especially when Uncle isn't home.

I was currently in the kitchen cooking with Aunty when we heard her phone ring. I ran to the living room to get the phone and made it back in time to pick it up. I didn't know who called but from the look on Aunty's face I could tell it wasn't just a courtesy call.

"Okay, Thanks a lot madam, I'll be there immediately." She said hurriedly in a monotone voice as she dropped the call and wiped her hands.

"Attracta can you make banga soup because I'll need you to finish it up but if you can't cook it, I'll be back on time to finish up."

Was she kidding me? A whole chef?

"I can make banga soup Aunty." I said.

"That's great, I'll be back in an hour dear." She said as she ran up the stairs to have a change of clothes and grabbed her car keys. I wondered what the problem was.

Time to show off my cooking skills.

I was done with the cooking in about thirty minutes. Superchef. I cleaned up the kitchen and decided to chill in the living room. My ass had barely kissed the couch when I heard a knock on the door.

Aunty came back early, but why was she knocking?

I opened the door to reveal a tall, handsome guy with bright red hair color staring at me like I had two heads.

"Can I help you?" I asked.

"I'm here for Ruby." He eyed me from my head to my toes.

What's wrong with this one?

"Okay, I'll let her kn-"

"Baby! You actually came." She squealed before she ran into his arms and the fool hugged her and even gave her a peck.

Could you imagine? So this grouch can smile. The guy looked like an upcoming mushin musician.

"Let's go." I heard her say before she walked out the gates hand in hand with Mr Danger and he drove off.

Ruby was dating a guy who would be at least four to five years older than her and that wasn't even the issue, she just drove off with him in a car. There's a saying that love is stupid but the stupidity has measurement now. I hoped she gets back before Aunty. Anyways what's my headache.

I walked back in, sat in my previous spot and tuned in to Africa magic epic only to see a scene where the lady added poison to a plate of soup, stirred it with her finger and tasted it, nodded her head and served it to her intended victim.

The great nollywood, accolades to y'all.

She tasted the poisoned food and didn't die but the victim died. Nothing short of theatric excellence. Nothings beats nollywood.

I woke up to the sound of knocking- more like banging on the door. How long have I been asleep. I hesitated at first until I heard Aunty's voice via the window.

"Open the door! I'm back." I heard Aunty's voice. I looked up at the clock which read "8:45". Aunty has been gone for about four hours and Ruby for three hours.

"Welcome Ma." I curtsied as Aunty came in.

"How are you dear, sorry I stayed out long. Have you prepared the soup? The traffic was a killer and I was delayed where I went to, it was Rose's teacher that called for my attention." She explained.

"Okay ma, should I dish your food or you'd like a shower first." I asked trying to stall her from thinking about the second person she left at home.

"Honestly speaking if I take a shower right now I'll sleep off so let me eat first then take the shower." She replied.

"Okay no problem ma." I served Aunty's food and she was midway into her food when it clicked.

"Has Ruby eaten?" She asked.

"Not yet ma, but she said she will soon." I lied.

"Okay then, I'll check on her on my way to my bed." Aunty said. Ruby was in deep shit.

Aunty was a few spoonfuls from being done with her food when I heard the sound of a car door slamming and the faint sound of someone sneaking in to the property. I'm ninety nine percent sure it's Ruby.

I slid my phone out of my back pocket as I texted Ruby's contact.

"Don't knock, wait for me at the back door of the kitchen." I sent.

"K" she replied. I'm even trying to help and she's still giving attitude. Wonders shall never end.

"I'm heading upstairs Attracta, thank you." Aunty said yawning lightly. She looked beat.

As soon as she started up the stairs, I made a u-turn into the kitchen and made to open up the exit door as quietly as I could.

"Get in." I whispered as I let the door open.

"Okay." She said in a duh tone.

How could someone who's so close to getting in trouble be so cocky?

She tip-toed to the entrance of the store room and pretended she was exiting from there making a few shuffling noises that attracted Aunty's attention as she was a few steps from Ruby's bedroom door.

"Honey, have you been in the store room all this while?" Aunty asked.

"Yes mum." She said as she walked up the stairs to her room without permitting her mum to ask any further questions.

"Goodnight Mum." She said as she closed the door behind her.

I cleaned up the kitchen and retired for bed. Whilst laying down, i wondered why Ruby was dating that guy. He looked far older than her and also looked like a dangerous type.

What could be the most she could possibly gain from him?, money? nice things?, all these were just vanities compared to how he could ruin her life and this vanities were things her parents could provide so why go down this road.

Funny as it may be, I'd never actually had a boyfriend or even had a boy I liked or crushed on. I guess it never really crossed my mind and besides I was just fifteen.

Don't contradict me. I've had guys throw themselves at me but I wasn't in the least interested in talking to them not to even go as far as liking any. I was just too preoccupied with thoughts like how I and my parents were going to survive the next day and my chase for a scholarship.

So I guess I had no time for boys except that guy that helped me with my phone the other day. Funny how I couldn't even remember his face anymore. Typical Attracta.

Enough boy thoughts, I said my prayers and off to bed I went.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate itđź–¤.
