The neon pink sign of the salon reflected off the wet pavement outside, throwing long, distorted streaks of color across the street, making the world outside look blurred and impressionistic.
The salon had significantly thinned out. Chloe had gone into the back office to run the end-of-day cash numbers and digital receipts, and the other beauty artists were clearing their stations, cleaning their brushes, and packing up their kits, their voices echoing softly through the large, open space. The upbeat pop music playlist had automatically transitioned into a slower, moodier R&B vibe that felt entirely too intimate for the current seating arrangement.
