He stared at John, at the bruised cheek, the defiant eyes, the sheer, raw power radiating from the man he’d called a defect.
"John?" Caleb’s voice broke.
"I told you," John said, his voice cold as the Abyss. "In ten days, I'm a ghost. Don't look too hard, Caleb. You might not like what you find."
He shoved past the stunned enforcer, disappearing into the fog of the docks.
Back at the manor, the news was already spreading. The Red Savior had appeared again. The Don was ecstatic. The brothers were in awe.
John sat in his basement cell, staring at the shattered remains of his life, listening to the family upstairs celebrate the man they didn't know they were killing.
