Charlie’s face shifted from pale to flushed, his hands waving frantically as he shouted, yet every pore radiated panic. Clearly, he thought Conrad had lost his mind—that every word was a lie. When he nodded, I continued, “I don’t want to see you get hurt as much as you don’t want to see me get hurt. So you should stop this whole talk of trying to send me away. I’m not going anywhere.” He looked at me quietly for a long while with a strange look in his eyes, like he couldn’t believe what I was saying. “You know, there are many who would argue that you’re actually insane. Instead of running away from trouble, you want to run straight towards it.” I pressed down the edges of a smile that had been curving my lips, “a good thing you have enough sanity for both of us then.”

I suppose it’s my own fault for not learning my lesson the first time. You keep hurting me and I keep expecting you to go back to acting sweet, despite the evidence in front of me.”

He shouts the words looking at me. "I am crazy yes, but there is nothing wrong with my mind, just people who fuck me about again, trying to kill me, Caroline did it, she killed my sister and tried to kill Alena, and then Alena does it, there is nothing wrong with my mind Anaya" I nod, my hand rubbing his arm trying to calm him down. "There has to be though, I refuse all the quick fixes, I refuse the medication, I refuse to admit I need her, and that I need the lifestyle and god damn, I refuse to cheat. So, what does that leave? Nothing, just me overthinking everything and being crazy".
