She grabbed my wrist.
“Come on.”
“I don’t know how to dance,” I protested.
“Good,” she said, dragging me toward the floor. “Then follow my lead.”
The dance floor wasn’t crowded yet, which somehow made it worse. There was nowhere to hide, nowhere to blend in, just polished marble under soft lights and a few early guests pretending not to watch.
Vanessa started moving immediately.
Not anything too serious, not some rehearsed ballroom nonsense either. Just moving with the rhythm, light on her feet, playful.
