chapter 11: The Brutal Encounter As the moon cast its silvery glow upon the rugged terrain, the trio of wolves stood before me. One of them, a formidable dark gray wolf, was the largest among them. He abruptly sprinted away, leaving me alone with the other two. "So, he's making you do his dirty work?" I sneered, disdain dripping from my voice. "Imagine the tales you'll pass down to your grandchildren. 'Hey, remember the time we killed Uncle Ray's mate?' You two are nothing but pathetic." My words carried a mixture of anger and defiance, culminating in a defiant spit in the direction of the wolf closest to me.

Millie POV. "I want love," I whined, I'm feeling very lonely, I always thought that I was a vampire who'd have my mate cheating on me all the time, but now that I knew I'm a wolf, I want to find my mate, I want to be with my mate, but who the hell is my mate. "I love you, Millie," Ethan says, he told me he love me every day since the day I came here. "I love you too, but I don't mean that kind of lol, dad," I say, I have called him dad a couple of times so far, and he always smiles and shows me how happy he is, cause of that, cause of me.

There was a tale passed through generations, reaching the 21st Century, about a group of werewolves’ special mutation that brings out dormant abilities from a family’s genetic line. They were said to be marked and blessed by the moon goddess for they were the first of her followers. They were given the title of Legacy Wolves, keeping up their tradition and passing on their special traits through their children.

“Snow is not. Oscar told me that Noah takes great pains to make sure of that. If that wolf is kissing you, it means something. I just don’t know what.” “I can tell you exactly what it means,” came a discarnate male voice that hinted of a Scottish brogue from the far side of the room. To my surprise, Snow did not react in a negative way to the voice. Instead, he trotted in the direction that it came from and stood as if patiently waiting for someone or something. “Who’s that?” Kenzie said in a hushed whisper as she nervously grabbed a poker from the nearby fireplace and took a defensive position.

I grit my teeth, panting as I look around. Out of nowhere, a slender black wolf skids to a halt in front of me, sending my heart freezing with terror. Golden eyes stare back at me, searching my soul. I clutch my chest, shaking my head, "Just go away. I'm not the fucking one for you," I snap, feeling the irritation creep into my skin. It stands there for a while, before it trots away from the spot I'm sprawled on. "Fuck you all," I whisper, forcing myself to stand up again.

“The one with the wolves that sing like bells.” Elara told it soft. She let the wolf sing like bells and then cut the sound to a hush. Her words were small and worn smooth by use. The story ended with a wolf who chose the child over the pack, who walked away when the elders cried for blood. Mira’s hands smoothed the blanket. Her small body had a fierceness Elara had never seen in any human child. It frightened and fixed her.

One of the girls—Mira, maybe—licked her fingers and turned her face to the sky like it had blessed her. “Do you think wolves ever get bored of howling?” Jasmine asked suddenly. Sarah blinked. “What?” “They howl and they howl, and for what? Territory? Mates? Attention?” Jasmine tilted her head. “Maybe they’re just screaming into the dark because it’s the only thing that screams back.” Sarah frowned. “You’ve been reading your mother’s books again.” Jasmine didn’t deny it. Somewhere in her suite, under silk and secrets, those books still breathed. Some in languages even Elora wouldn’t recognize. Some with pages that pulsed faintly under her fingers. All of them inked in grief.

I decide to ask Ruby and Garnet how they got their wolves. “We had a shared dream” Garnet tells me “Two identical wolves were running straight toward us, but swerved at the last moment. One went right, the other left. They didn’t speak, but then the next few nights, I dreamt I was running up a hill through snow. I was following wolf tracks. It took me three nights to reach the top of the hill and a wolf with a dark grey coat was there. She told me if I accepted her then we would have a long life but filled with hardships. If I didn’t accept her, then I’d soon die. Of course, I accepted her - she’s the only reason I’m still here.”

She said with a quiet voice. Mireille was the kind of person who never shouts. She's known as the oldest wolf in the whole of the Silent Howl Clan. She'd retreated into the light parts of the mountains to live a quiet life after clocking the long age of 700 years. She'd seen wolves come and go, seen the not so common lycans who appeared once in a blue moon at different large clans who rarely interfered with each other. She lived in the most peaceful pack under the silent howl clan, Moon whisper pack.
