I saw the dog dying in Sector Nine; I saw Mia’s fear; I saw my father’s cold smile. I fell to my mother-of-pearl floors, my back arching, a silent scream tearing through me. Xander collapsed beside me, his eyes finally, fully brown, the violet glow in his neck extinguished forever. He was free. He was a man again—weak, exhausted, and human. "Sara! Stop! Let it go!" He tried to pull my hand away, but the connection was absolute. "I... am... the Banker," I gasped, the violet light now glowing behind my own eyes. "And I... authorize... this... default."

His eyes torpedoed in. “I hope my scathing glare communicates how I feel right now. Incredibly uncomfortable.” Samael's impossibly ripped quads could leave bruises, I was sure of it. I imagined him in one of those Roman toga things and immediately erased the image. That was not what I came here for, however tempting it might be. He rubbed circles onto my collarbone. Sauron cocked his head in question. “Maggot, have I ever told you that you whine too much? Silence speaks more than prayers.”

Clearing his throat, Xander began to read: “To the misguided wolves of the Blackstone and Clearwater pack, and their foolish Alpha's, Aurora. The time you've been looking forward to has arrived. I now have powers beyond your wildest imagination, and I'll reshape the world to fit my ideal. Get ready because I'm on my way to take what is mine. Your submission, or your destruction – the choice is yours.” A heavy silence fell over the hall as Xander finished reading.
