I crawl backward, my palms burning and my eyes locked on it. “You need to rest,” the dark haired wolf says but his voice sounds far away. “You’re not okay.” “Kael,” I whisper. “I have to save him.” Darkness……..there is so much darkness. It finally touches me and I scream and scramble away, my nails scraping the floor. Strong arms grab me and lift me off the ground dropping me on the bed as I thrash wildly still screaming on top of my voice. “No! No no no. I have to save him!”

We would not throw away our last ounce of dignity for a sliver of pity disguised as guilt. I rushed into the forest and found the herbs that contained the antidote before feeding them to Noah. Fortunately, the dose was quite small. The medicine worked quickly, and Noah regained his strength. Silas had signed my application to leave the pack, and Alexander signed the agreement terminating our mate bond. There was nothing left to hold us back. I shifted into my wolf and let Noah climb onto my back. Then, I bolted away like a streak of silver lightning and raced out of the Red Falls Pack's territory.

“But unfortunately for you, you crossed my path.” Pedro’s eyes widened. He tried to say something, but he could only manage a gurgling moan. I stood up and clapped twice. In the next instant, every light in the ballroom went out, except for eight spotlights positioned around the room. Those eight points corresponded perfectly to the eight anchors of the ritual array I had constructed. “North. South. East. West. Northeast. Northwest. Southeast. Southwest.” I uttered each direction clearly. With every mention of the direction, one spotlight blinked out.

“The fire… it protects us as much as it consumes.” I trembled, heart racing, body alight. “Then… I’ll stay,” I whispered. “No matter the danger. No matter the fire. I’ll stay.” He smirked, dark, twisted, magnetic. “Good. Because once the fire has you… there’s no turning back. I take one step forward, two back, and fall back onto the sofa as my limbs become too heavy to move. I try to stand, but I can't. I'm paralyzed and as my eyes dart around the room, I watch with horror as a dark figure steps out from behind the large, lavish curtain on the opposite side of the room. My eyes start to fail me as everything starts to blur and when I open my mouth to scream… Nothing comes out. My inner Goddess screams for me to get up. 'Save Savannah!' She cries out. 'Save us both'. The dark figure approaches me slowly, a pistol in hand, a ski mask covering their face, and dressed entirely in black.

I grew weak, drawing close to the darkness. I heard cries of my name and the wailing of sirens in a distance. Darkness finally consumed me, I had blacked out.

(Pauses, then carefully examines the girl's neck) Please present your neck for inspection. Villagers were whispering and speculating among themselves, "Do you see any marks?" "What if they find the lightning bolt?" "The Zura could be among them." The High Council member moved to the next girl, ‘Your cooperation is crucial to our realm's future. (Gently inspects the girl's neck) Please hold steady.’

Diane took me to the car, Bert was surprised to see me pale and held up by Diane. "What happened? Lilian, are you okay?" Bert sounded concerned. Diane told him that I would be, just needed to get me home. I gave Bert a little smile. I was just remembering Walter's words, that it would only take one bad human energy to tipped my scale and bring me back to the dark side easily. Anthony, I need Anthony.
